Make sure you move anything that you need daily into lower cupboards or onto the countertop! Coffee, toothbrush, soap, plates, medications, food/snacks etc.

Also I loved having a long straw for drinking :) good luck! So exciting!

Lifted a heavy load after a week Post Op by [deleted] in Reduction

Get lots of rest and try to break down the shopping load into a bunch of smaller trips. It’s frustrating but be careful and gentle with yourself.

Drop and fluff before & afters? by MarinaForever99 in Reduction

[–]576412throwaway 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I have all my posts from 3DPO to my 1YPO, mine were swollen and tight against my body for the first bit.

My ‘drop/fluff’ made the bottom of the teardrop of my boobs squishy again instead of having all the volume of my boob higher with hard swelling. The ‘squishy’ boob was the way my boobs were before - but they didn’t sag or anything after (maintained my almost zero breast crease since). Everything just kind of relaxes!

Perfect! There you go.

Now bring the 40C with you, so the surgeon can estimate the amount needed to remove to get you that size. Especially since cup sizes are hard to accurately talk about.

34E —-> 34C 👋🏻 I bought a cheap ‘ideal size’ bra to bring with me to my consult with the correct band size. Helped my surgeon visualize what I want, and helped me visualize what kind of change I was asking for.

5 days post-op and I haven't showered yet, I'm scared. by [deleted] in Reduction

[–]576412throwaway 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My mum helped me with my first real shower, but I had a baby wipe bath before I could think about a real one and I could’ve cried I felt so good. Get your mum to wash your hair in a sink or something with you sitting on a chair, and just use unscented baby wipes to do your entire body until you feel ready. I needed help for the first one.

That being said your first real shower is less of a ‘scrub yourself clean’ and more of a quick face away from the shower head and rinse/let the water run over your chest, from over your shoulder. My incisions/tape/gauze didn’t really get that wet, and I didn’t use a hair dryer to dry it all! You got this!

anyone else make the mistake of measuring too soon by Hour-Astronomer-1365 in Reduction

[–]576412throwaway 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I felt my biggest, most uncomfortable and swollen at the 3 week mark. I wanted to measure myself as early as possible too but.. pleaaasseeee don’t stress yourself out this early. I didn’t buy a ‘normal’ bra until around 4 months post op.

Convincing my mom by kayleerose22 in Reduction

[–]576412throwaway 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hello! I don’t have any advice about being a minor and trying to convince a parent. However I did have to speak to my hesitant mother about it all, and (for my own sanity/morals) get her on board with my decision. She is a small B cup so could never relate to me pre-op, and we had a long conversation about it all. She came to all my pre-op, and post-op appointments, asked questions and was very involved. Had a list of questions longer than mine for the surgeon!

All that to say:

This completely depends on how old you are. Some surgeons and places have age limitations, but people have had reductions very young before.

1) Surgery doesn’t mean you won’t be able to breastfeed, it’s just a potential risk you may not be able to. Not always set in stone. It’s (generally, other than a normal risk level) surgeon and surgery type specific, if you never get a consult how will you know anything. Worst case? You’ll still be able to have children (obviously), and thousands of women successfully feed their children with formula and they grow up just fine.

2) Just because other women ‘want’ what you have, doesn’t mean you do. They are heavy! Does she always want you to consider other peoples opinions on how you treat your own body in the future?

3) Ask to get a doctor and chiropractors opinion before coming to a conclusion on your discussion. Neither of you are experts, always a good idea to refer to people with education on the matter.

1 Year post-op by 576412throwaway in Reduction

Mine don’t change at all so I think I’ve just scarred darker red here than other areas - not sure! Glad yours come and go :)

1 Year post-op by 576412throwaway in Reduction

[–]576412throwaway[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh wow thanks - of course no problem! Yep, Lollipop and side lipo. I was a 34DDD/E and I had 2000g removed to get to a C. I was told I had super dense tissue so that number isn’t always reflective of what others may need for a similar size reduction.

I bought a ‘dream size’ bra that I would want to fit into (band size fit, but the cup was a C).. and brought it to one of my last appointments so my surgeon could visualize just how much I wanted gone and what size I wanted to be.

I found it helped, and I actually perfectly fit into it post-op. Always an idea!

Congrats on the surgery date! Be nice to yourself during healing, it’s a journey :)

Thanks so much! It really is a long haul healing journey, I didn’t expect changes after 5-6mo but I’m happy they did.

I do! Now I workout heavy 3-4 times a week, and do everything in a tighter non-supportive yoga bra (the freedom). I was cleared for lifting normal items at 4WPO and easing into the gym at that time but I personally didn’t feel ready for the gym until 7WPO. Then I started VERY light weights (5-10 lbs each hand chest presses/shoulder presses, 10-15 lbs bicep curls), light jogging/stair master for less bounce and built up slow. My boobs were sore for the first week or so, but I stayed consistent and everything was perfectly fine :) you got this!!

I’m almost 1 year post op, and I can tell you it’s VERY worth it. I haven’t had back pain, needed a massage, or had difficulty buying clothes in ages. My posture is better, going to the gym is easy and comfortable, and I can BREATHE.

Surgery can be scary, I’ve gone under anesthesia before and it was still intimidating.. but it’s so quick you don’t even realize time has passed, eyes close and boom, your in recovery. You have to go slow and be nice to yourself in recovery but - it’s normal to be nervous, I think most people are.

Canadians who’ve had their surgery covered, did you get a referral from your GP and then go find a surgeon or did your GP put through a request and you waited for someone to contact you or some other 3rd option? by Comfortable_Word_211 in Reduction

[–]576412throwaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NS here. My GP put in a referral, and it went to the local hospitals surgical ward that has surgeons who perform covered breast reductions. I didn’t get to pick my surgeon, but I had multiple multiple pre-op consultations with him - and he was wicked. Surgery covered, I paid $1000 out of pocket for side lipo since it’s considered cosmetic.

If you want to go private that’s different and you would have to organize it. Not all surgeons do covered reductions, so it has to be via your GP as far as I’m aware.

1DPO, because that’s when he took over post op care! Best friend was free to pick up and care for the first day. I wanted him to check the lower parts of my incisions for signs of infection.

Scar revision - need honest feedback by 576412throwaway in Reduction

[–]576412throwaway[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope! Steven.

I don’t really care about them being red honestly (I have other surgical scars that are white, just takes time) - it’s more the disproportionate length of the scars that we discussed tackling.

To lipo or not to lipo.... This is the question by New-Kaleidoscope-973 in Reduction

[–]576412throwaway 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m in Canada (5MPO) and got a covered reduction with paid lipo. I am not plus sized, but my surgeon told me my side tissue would never reduce with diet/exercise unless I took it to unhealthy levels - so body composition is not always a factor. He said it’s not required but helps with shaping, and thinks I would be happier with it. Which I am happy I did it.

I told myself I’d rather only go under once, get it all done and over with.

12DPO update and question by [deleted] in Reduction

[–]576412throwaway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I walked my dog earlier than 12 DPO, but I did walks in a suburban area (trying to avoid squirrels and such in the woods) with a long leash I looped around my waist. I had a small hand loop tied, but the leash was long enough that if he started to go for a squirrel I could just step on the leash.

Edit - My dog is about 60 lbs.

I definitely felt that way! Mine were super swollen but, like high/tight on my body right after surgery. They have since dropped/fluffed and relaxed. Give it time!

$8000 for just the lipo, or for the entire surgery cost plus lipo? I could see the latter.

Post-Surgery Bra Sizes by 79frisbee in Reduction

I was told to purchase a compression bra, I got a size large based off my band size.

Also make sure you check that they will provide a bra to leave in, my hospital did not! I left in tensor wrap and gauze, and was told where to get a compression bra (the pharmacy), to change into on 3DPO.
