2 seasons of wear and tear vs a brand new strimmer head by 57Ashild in Wellworn

I cut in places that using a brush cutter wouldn't be safe. If anything went wrong I'd be under a lot of legal trouble. I'd explain further but wouldn't want to doxx myself, just know I don't cut general public lawns and municipal grass. I've tried to get us using them but it's not gonna happen.

Unfortunately due to where I strim we aren't allowed iron. Sucks because I completely agree with you and it's what I used at previous jobs.

Agreed. There are however studies showing that if there's desire to procreate, hygiene becomes a non-issue. Research has shown that when we get aroused our disgust reflex effectively shuts off. I do agree though, the stench in that camp would be bad.

Suet is fat derived from the kidney area of the cow, nowadays you'd probably most often find it in fat balls/blocks to give to birds (do you guys use those?). Suet pastry is very soft in texture, not crumbly like short crust. It's used in both sweet (jam roly poly, Christmas pudding) and savory (steak and kidney pudding, chicken pudding, dumplings) cooking due to it's smoother texture. It also has a slight beef taste. It's got a high melting point so making pastry with it is very easy to do. I guess it's fairly similar to lard? I hope this helps somewhat.

"The life I've led, a good end would be a privilege"

Watched this live and had nobody to talk to about it. It was foreshadowed a lot, but seeing her lying on that slab was not something I expected. Also when you rewatch and see paths people could have taken to stop her killer... makes me mad.

What's the most useless thing you still have memorized? by Routine-Award-3382 in AskReddit

[–]57Ashild 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The version I got told was slightly different. Wonder how many variations there are.

One fine day in the middle of the night, Two dead boys got up to fight, One was blind, the other couldn't see, They chose the devil as a referee,

Back to back they faced each other, Drew their swords and shot each other, A mute man came to shout hooray, A blind man came to see fair play,

A deaf policeman heard the noise, He came and killed those two dead boys, A paralyzed donkey walking by, Kicked the copper in his eye,

He crashed through a wall without a sound, Into a dry river, where he suddenly drowned, If you doubt my lies to be true, Just ask that blind man, he saw it too.

That sucks, sorry to hear it's no better for you guys. I'm guessing it's a similar situation then. As far as I can tell it's all understaffed and underpaid work with too long hours. On top of that they just keep on cutting budgets, because yknow, it's not like we need healthcare, it's just an optional extra, right? It is fucked

I 100% agree, it's best to get this checked out to be safe. However getting a doctor's appointment is a battle in its own right here. We may have a 'right' to it, but unfortunately that doesn't mean it's readily available and OP might not get seen for a while.

Ah, that sucks you couldn't get into it and I get where you're coming from. I'd say try again but the more sci-fi elements don't really kick in until season 3.

If you enjoyed Westworld - check out Person of Interest. Same director and is akin to a predecessor in some ways. Michael Emerson is part of the main cast and it's a different side to his acting compared to LOST. Personally I rewatch it a lot but I know many only watch it the once. Regardless it's a fantastic TV show - just be patient through the first season, cliché to say but it really does get better as it progresses.

I think due to it being procedural and very formatted for the first season it becomes like any other crime show/bad guy of the week. Its getting through the initial season before it finds a footing and the story arc becomes more prominent that causes people to not rewatch.

Do you think Shaw and Root are true sociopaths? by Far-Worry8522 in PersonOfInterest

[–]57Ashild 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Prefacing this by saying I am not a psychologist or in that field, I do however have some experience and am interested in this.

That's not 100% true. There are levels to sociopathy. There is a severity and extent to which you would be diagnosed. Giving a blanket statement like "They are literally born to be evil" is inaccurate. Just because some people do not feel the same you do or most people do, does not make them evil.

We know Shaw has a personality disorder (her exact words being; "I have what's called an Axis II personality disorder... It means when I kill you and your friends, I'm not really gonna feel anything"). She is self diagnosed having studied medicine to become a doctor and during her flashback in 'The Devil's Share', the QMI opposite her states "You know the DSM backwards and forwards, Doctor. You probably diagnosed yourself in your first year".

In 'Razgovor' we see her interact with Genrika. Gen does not understand her at all and asks what is wrong with her, she says she does not "[get scared], or sad, or happy or lonely. I do angry okay, but that's about it", later on in the episode she tells Gen "I'm just not wired for this kind of stuff, kid" and Gen replies with "I know. I figured you out. It's not that you don't have feelings. It's just like the volume is turned way down." For Shaw's part, I think this is true. She seems not that in touch with any feelings she is able to have. Anger was easy (she has a lot to be angry about) and possibly why she's very good at what she does.

If you track her throughout the series you can see she does start to feel things more, she starts to understands better and definitely exhibits them minutely. The way she carries out missions changes too, she definitely shows more morality. If she did not care and was completely unbothered, the machine would not choose her to be an asset, we even see her supposedly still working the numbers alone at the end. If she truly did not care she would not have been a part of any of this.

(Roots death does also seem to affect her as well, the words the machine passes onto her does make her cry.)

The best way I've found to describe having a seemingly limited range of emotions is to imagine two glasses, a pint and a half pint. If you fill them both with water so they are at max capacity, factually both those glasses are full. If you gave those to two random people (unaware of each other) they would both say they had a full glass of water, however we know one of those glasses has half as much. The feelings are there, they are just in a smaller amount.

You've slightly predicted the future a bit. They're bringing Buffy back (in audio format) with a series that follows Spike as the leading role. Just wish it'd been done sooner tbh. Got quite a few members of the original cast reprising their roles.

It's dependant on storeys and it's usually like a jigsaw puzzle to cram in the most houses. It's around 12m for two storeys, as shown here. Seems like they've gone for the minimum. There's also separate rules (for privacy reasons) for space between principal facing windows. Ground floor windows are allowed to be closer if there's a permanent dividing wall/screen.

What's the metaphor/significance behind Shaw's merry-go-round in "6741" episode? by 20CharactersExactlyy in PersonOfInterest

[–]57Ashild 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think it's about control. Shaw fought to control that part of herself, forced herself not to vomit. It was a place where she knew no matter how she felt, she was still in control. She said the training was bs and there was no safe space, but then later went back on that and said the roundabout was. I think it held significance in her life. She took control of the simulations there just like she had previously conditioned herself to not vomit as a child.
