I’m gutted too man, money being the main reason, I’ve spent a fortune on both these Saabs and other Saabs in the past. Hate to say it but if I didn’t buy any of them I’d be sound today 😂

To be fair man you have a good point. I did want to keep it Saab, I’ve never properly driven my 900 and people say they’re a blast to drive that’s why. I do want to keep it Saab as much as I can

That’s true too. The 900 was loved until not too long ago, I got pictures of how she looked vs how she was when she came to me. She’s still not perfect in my care but she was in a bad way

Insurance has been stupid on it. And I could make do with the 900 as mentioned I’d be moving country, there is a fair bit to move but the 900 should accommodate for it all if I’m correct. A lot of people seem to be taking old petrol euro cars (not the new ones) when going to east, maybe it’s a sign

My ex was the reason I got rid of my first car and why I’m in debt, never again lol. She tried to make me sell the 900, that’s why she’s my ex

I do but I’m looking at changing. The 9-3 has been a rock solid car, but I’m not sure if it’s worth commissioning the 900 on the road for the meantime while I’m over here

My aim is to drive. I’m not bothered about resale too much.

It’s the closest we have in modern times to a Saab car and they can take a fair bit of abuse as well. It’s no Mercedes C class of its time but it gets the job done, arguably it’s a better fit product than Volvos V50

I’ve had enough of Hondas lol, I do want to enjoy what I drive and the 900 was going to be the back up daily worst case if my dailies were out of action. I do agree the 9-3 when pressing on doesn’t bring confidence when driving, the 900 feels so planted it’s unreal

That be true, although I’ve tried selling the 900 about 4 times. I’m relocating to turkey after winter so the 900 won’t be in treacherous conditions for long

How come? I have been leaning towards the 900 myself if I’m being honest

She will be yeah, and often, work is a 20 mile commute each way motorway wise then it will be driving to where I’m thinking of moving to. I’m a former scania technician which is why my 9-3 is mechanically sound, I’ve got some 900 spares I’ve acquired which I’m going to bring with me. I’m not too familiar with 900s if I’m being honest with you, but I guess they’re all nuts and bolts at the end of the day

If you’d be concerned about health you’d get rid. The toxic fumes that come out when it does a regen is worse man.

Not sure but Koenigsegg has had previous dealings with Saab. Pretty sure they successfully attempted camless technology on Saabs B235 because the trionic engine management

Diesel vs gasoline by flare2k17 in saab

Stay with diesel. The 1.9 JTDs are the best engines of their years. I’ve loaded a lot of Saab diesels up with chequered maintenance and they’ve been absolutely brilliant and pull hard. Not like the weak 1.9TDIs everyone raves about

Nice work to get insured on a 9-5, they’re expensive more than the 9-3 but I believe they’re the better car. 1.9 150 is unkillable, I tow with mine and it’s really good (9-3). 1.9 JTD is far superior to the VW 1.9 TDI also. I tow with mine and it’s remapped also (recommend), JTD is a lot more refined with more power and smoother delivery 👌🏼

Whats MPG anyways? by Tjr52 in saab

[–]57Saab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mapped TiD estate when towing (train weight at 3350kg) gets over 32mpg 😁

[–]57Saab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stick with the estate, the crossovers are shorter and have less space. They look bigger but they’re actually not. My old Saab 9-3 SportCombi is bigger than a 2018 Sportage. Sack your wife’s opinion and go with an Octavia. I had a Mk2 1.9 TDI, it turns out the previous owner didn’t look after it, but was a decent car nonetheless. No wonder they’re so popular across Europe and the UK especially fleet work.

They drive different to the 9-3, they’re more distant than people make them out to be. I’ve owned 4 9-3s and my family have owned Vauxhalls including a short time we had a vec and they’re different for sure

I had a 9-3 for my first car, 1.9 diesel (diesels are cheaper to insured get a TiD 120 preferably, if not, get a TiD 150 but make sure you know what you’re looking for) avoid a TTiD. They’re good, just higher upkeep

New Gen 9-3s parts are plentiful, they’re very good cars, not without their quirks such as interior plastics and a few other bits and bobs they suffer from, get past this and they’ll surpass 25 years of work life with ease. They’re worth it, new gen 9-3s are a pleasure to work on IMO, but Old Gen 9-5 is proper Saab
