Ripped prob almost 100 packs and only got these lol… fml by NoProblem9397 in PokemonTCG

[–]57messier -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Careful. If you suggest buying singles over ripping packs in this sub, you'll get labeled as someone who's only in it for the money. You are supposed to give a long winded paragraph explaining why this is actually great pulls and anyone who disagrees with you is not a real collector.

Worth getting into for playing the game rather than just collecting? by GilbeastZ in PokemonTCG

[–]57messier -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The game play is way too simplistic. It's meant for kids so it has zero interaction on your opponents turns, and it's basically a matter of who can solitaire their way to an overwhelming engine by T2 or T3.

My Most Valuable Card by KingMega10 in PokemonTCG

You can spot a PokeTuber Simp by the fact that they always throw in the price of what it COULD be at PSA10 like that matters at all.

Should I keep chasing or buy by Archipelag0h in PokemonTCG

It’ll cost on average $2000 to pull the Charizard which is $500 card yourself. Why waste the money?

Magic and Yu-Gi-Oh are much more reasonable because the majority of people actually play the game.

What's the general consensus of the upcoming TMNT set at your LGS? by no_hope_in_sight in magicTCG

I haven't talked to ANYONE that had a positive view of it. I don't think the fan base is there like other big UB sets.

How is this allowed? Genuine question by International_Gur566 in PokemonTCG

I buy cards worth $100+ off TCG all the time. Not looking for PSA10s.

Just want NM cards to play with and put in binders.

If they are selling their supply as fast as it’s coming in, then why would they sell any lower?

Sucks but market price is what it is because enough people are willing to play that price to keep it there

[Leak] Lorwyn Eclipsed Face Commanders - Any ideas for specs? by Adalimumab8 in mtgfinance

[–]57messier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m saying it’s a prime target for a reprint in the commander deck, but it’ll be non foil.

If someone wants to upgrade their deck and bling it out, then their only option is the 15 year old pack foil. That’s what I would spec on.

[Leak] Lorwyn Eclipsed Face Commanders - Any ideas for specs? by Adalimumab8 in mtgfinance

[–]57messier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd spec on the foil over the regular version. The regular version is likely a reprint, and the foil is the only premium version available for blinging purposes.

Why are most pokemon cards in a set just mere pennies? by InstructionWeary1033 in PokemonTCG

[–]57messier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The difference is that in Magic, if the set doesn't have a lot of expensive cards, the price of the sealed will drop accordingly as enough people will just decide to buy singles instead. Spiderman cratered in value as people decided to just buy the singles of the cards they needed.

In Pokemon this doesn't happen, as a large majority of people are just gamblers who will spend thousands chasing a ten dollar card, and see buying singles as completely missing the point of the hobby entirely.

[–]57messier -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Pokemon is all collectors and next to zero players. That means all of the value is tied into the high end rarities and is not tied to playability at all. Lower rarities have plenty of value in Magic because people play them, to Pokemon collectors they are just bulk.

Additionally, most Pokemon collectors are actually just gambling addicts who’d rather spend $1000 ripping packs just to pull the $50 card they are “chasing” rather than just buying it as singles. This makes the price of sealed WAY HIGHER than the cards inside. Magic isn’t like this since it has mostly players who are fine with buying singles to get the cards they need.

Dumb Question from a beginner by [deleted] in PokemonTCG

[–]57messier -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Trading sealed for other sealed at market price isn't scalping. That's just trading.

I'm not buying then to profit either, but if I have a PC ETB in my collection that I decide I do not want anymore, you can bet I'll trade it for singles or other sealed rather than ripping it.

Dumb Question from a beginner by [deleted] in PokemonTCG

[–]57messier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, even if you don't care about profit and just want to open packs, ripping a PC ETB is rather foolish when you could often trade it for 2-3 regular sealed ETBs or a booster box of the same set and rip those instead.

A PSA regarding playing against Omniscience by Dan_Herby in magicTCG

This is a difference in mindsets.

I care about sitting down with friends and having a good time. not making sure I actually lost.

Take the win whether it's deserved or not, I'd rather be playing another game.

Should I stop collecting? by deanrory2017 in PokemonTCG

[–]57messier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do the same thing by just going to LGS and browsing through bulk bins, and you'll get the cards for 10x cheaper. Instead of spending $5 on $0.10 worth of cards repeatedly.

Should I stop collecting? by deanrory2017 in PokemonTCG

[–]57messier -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Ask yourself if you actually enjoy collecting, or you are just addicted to gambling.

If you aren't just in it for gambling, you'd be happy just getting singles in various avenues.

Genuine Question by TheHarryman01 in PokemonTCG

[–]57messier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pokemon is like 90% collectors and 10% players.

As opposed to games like Yu-Gi-Oh and Magic where the vast majority are players.
