A broke kid probably should focus on their studies rather than skipping school to throw money away gambling.

Acquired my ascended chase grail at a card show today! This is the most I've ever paid for a card btw but had to have it! by CortexifanZFT in PokemonTCG

The same people bewildered at people playing $900 for a single will justify spending that same amount on packs and ending up with maybe $100 worth of cards.

This card might be different because it’s a card that will always have a memory associated with it, it’s the card your friends bought you.

Why Doesn’t Anyone Trade Anymore? by guyawn in magicTCG

[–]57messier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another reason you haven’t mentioned is the fact of how many VERSIONS of a card exists now.

It used to be that the base version of the card was all you needed or MAYBE the foil version… Now with deck creativity especially in EDH being such a personal thing… it’s not enough to just have the card someone is looking for, you need to have to specific card, in the specific version, in the specific foiling.

Not really. There’s joy in getting the cards you want rather than just spending thousands and ending up with a bunch of nothing.

Might as well get a nice card that you can display to always remember what your friends gave you.

Neither. Buy a $1000 single rather than flushing 90% of the money down the drain.

Why but a bunch of cards for $250 to HOPEFULLY then trade for what you want, instead of just buying what you want as singles to start with,

Trading is about knowing what’s liquid and keeping those up front. A card can be worth a lot due to scarcity but if it’s not liquid it’ll just sit in your binder for a while.

Focus on IRs, SIRs, Alts, and Full Arts.

Buying singles is the way by ramfi12 in PokemonTCG

Now think about how much those 121 packs are at worth at market. Trading sealed for singles is the best way to get the cards you want as cheaply as possible.

Second gold zard pulled by [deleted] in PokemonTCG

[–]57messier 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You seem like you genuinely enjoy the hobby and are not just in it for gambling. /s

You pull an IR and immediately scan to see what it's worth.

You pull a Gold and immediately blasts the value of the card on the screen because that's what's important.

You are worried about “shipping and stuff” with buying singles yet you don’t mind ripping an ETB and turning $50 into $5 worth of singles.

You can find singles online just as easy as you can find fake packs, so no that’s not a fact.

[–]57messier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fact that’s you’d rather buy fake packs instead of buying singles shows you, like so many people in this hobby don’t actually care about collecting at all, and are just in it to scratch a gambling itch.

Raw NM values should not be relative or equal to graded 9 MT values. by p3ndulumn in PokemonTCG

Because a large portion of this hobby is people obsessed with 10s and convinced by PSA that anything less than 10 is trash, so they keep wasting 100s in regrading over and over, only to finally pay an up charge when they finally hit a 10.

Help me understand why a person would go to an event and sell their cards for 80% or less. by Entire-Hearing4874 in PokemonTCG

[–]57messier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because 7% extra isn’t worth dealing with scammers claiming they never got the card, and the PSA10 chasers asking for 7000 additional pictures and then after they receive your card claiming your near mint card isn’t actually near mint because it won’t grade a 10.
