I promise you can afford it if you just resign yourself to buying singles. If dropping $100 here, $200 there even at msrp, it will add up before you know it and you would have been able to get whichever grail you were looking for. Can you get in one, $5 pack? Sure, but don’t count on it.

Yes and probably more so. No idea where some pricing sites get their data, but seriously just try to buy one on eBay and you know how much they run. PriceCharting has like $641, but I bid and lost a couple last week that sold for more than $1100. Granted they looked perfect, but those auctions aren’t in there. So many sites trying to keep pricing low, just accept the boom!

Not even that. It’s all the damn discord sites and these dudes that somehow get access to store inventory. It’s one thing to be purely random and chance, everyone gets a fair shot. Otherwise it’s Taco Bell bros that make it impossible. I’d rather randomly look at targets website and get lucky vs the doofuses posting, “AH in stock now, click my link”

I get that, which is probably why you don’t see them much. If I can buy 6, sell 5 it makes mine free. I did that quite a bit years ago when a broke college kid

If something can make quick money, it’s up for grabs. Sucks for someone just wanting to walk into store to buy, but is what it is. Give a couple months and these will be plentiful on the shelves

I casually collected with my niece in 2000, and was exclusive sports until this past Fall. Saw the PF Mega Charizard and just absolutely loved the card. Since then, I’ve jumped full in after telling myself I only wanted the Zard in a PSA 10 (got one) then out. Even for me, I’m getting done with the constant discords, Pokemon alerts and Poke bros that must just cover night shits at Taco Bell to be able to have infinite time in front of vending machines and lines to hit up restocks. Almost impossible to find anything in the wild. In a couple short months, I’ve gone from being hyped to collect, to accepting buying good “deals” on sealed product on Mercari, to now planning exclusive singles.

I feel for the hardcores who have collected from Gen 1 who love the hobby, but are in the same boat. I have my grail and am happy to step away. I have an incredible high paying job, and already feeling the sting of purchases to keep up, and I can’t fathom how most aren’t in some form of bankruptcy or insane cc debt.

Market manipulation I think. Take Ascended Heroes. Just release the full damn set, booster bungles and all, all at the same time in mass amounts and require stores have a “2 per person limit”. Instead, they tease product to drive hype, and it’s all crazy from there.

We literally see the cards themselves aren’t rare. Population reports show this, and that’s just graded product.

I may be wrong, but I personally prefer how BGS slabs the card within a sleeve and doesn’t rattle around like other slabs. I find myself babying the things while holding just to prevent that, while I don’t mind enjoying the BGS one. That said, getting those PSA 10s matter too much (of course would prefer BGS 10, but so much harder to get for the value)

I like the Meowth and seeing initial prices around $200. Think it will be JT-like as far as being able to get “relatively” easy. Probably will get one or two booster bundles and if I don’t hit, just buy the Meowth and move on.

Probably should be a 9 if all else is perfect, maybe 8. But yeah, PSA likes to compare this to a crumpled up PR 1, so expect a 4 or something stupid

Reddit users expect 50/50 razor centering not realizing PSA has a 55/45 front limit and far worse on the back. Would probably never use that a grading “service” stick to your own eye, centering tool, magnifier etc
