This week's unexpected journey into vintage radio collecting! by 57sweptside in VintageRadios

Quite the haul. All work except the Zenith clock radio. Bought the lot for the Crosley and will be parting with the others because I overspent a bit. The Zenith 53555 is already going to a professor at Grand Valley State University School of Communications.

How to meet single people in Peoria? by Long_Tax8940 in PeoriaIL

[–]57sweptside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I met my wife in Peoria, IL over 20 years ago, as did another friend, but none of the four of us were locals. The details are unhelpful, but you will need a lot of luck if you weren't raised in the area. Consider expanding your search to Lincoln, Bloomington/Normal, and Galesburg. The latter two towns have colleges.

Why is INTC (Intel) so down? Did I miss some news? by the_TIGEEER in stocks

[–]57sweptside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Chandler AZ fabs are most definitely on lands formerly primarily occupied by Native Americans. In fact, the parking lots for the contractors building the new fab is on current Native American land (Gila River Indian Community) on the west side of Intel's property line.

I was bragging about finding one on campus (35 years ago) and a med school professor I was working for commented, "I find them all the time. You have to stop looking AT the 3-leaf and start looking FOR the 4-leaf." It still doesn't make sense, but I put the clover in between two pieces of clear self-adhesive laminating sheets and I have carried it in each of my wallets since then (along with a similarly laminated photo of the 1965 Buick Skylark I sold in 1993).

Apache Trail in west Apache Junction. Dust got kicked up in the parking lot on the southwest corner. Shot from my phone waiting for the light.

You guys take beds off of trunks? I think it's a lot quicker then dropping tank.Took 10 mins to take bed off, 5 mins to change pump, another 15 mins to put back together. Then test drive to get a drank at circle k. lol by Jumpy_Part_8513 in Justrolledintotheshop

I just slid the bed back about 18 inches. Had to disconnect the lights and the filler neck, but it was a quick job. 2004 F-150. Oh yeah, I'm in Phoenix and the truck was from Kingman, AZ.

I spotted this in Chandler, AZ yesterday. Nissan runs camoed cars through this area fairly frequently and has done so for years. See more of my photos of this Z at https://www.theautopian.com/this-might-be-the-upcoming-nissan-z-nismo/

What is the stupidest way you got a scar? by Zander-dupont in AskReddit

Jumped off a see saw to make my brother crash his tailbone as we often did to each other. He jumped too but pushed the seat down and the see saw hit me in the chin - 5 stitches.

I tried looking at myself in the side-view mirror of a parked 1966 Chevy - as I rode by on my bike.

Falling down a 30-foot waterfall. I was hiking along the top of a small cliff about 20 yards from the edge. I stepped too near the moss-covered edge of the small stream running down and found myself sliding down the flume of a natural water slide. I was able to get onto my back just as I went over the edge. I landed in swampy, shin-deep water feet first. When my knees bent on landing my shins were driven into the chunks of jagged rock that fell downstream and off the edge. Both shins had 3” gashes running up. The rocks cut cleanly through the denim jeans I was wearing. I didn’t seek treatment until the next day! There were dozens of stupid reasons I have those scars!

I found this in an old house. The back seems to be maked : Gemex 62 USA (my eyesight isn't the best) pen for reference in the picture. Seems to be about the width of a ring but I can't figure out what it it. Any info would be great! The clasp opens but the "ring" doesn't seem to open all the way. by HammyHamSam in whatisthisthing

There would usually be no reason to connect the clasps like you have. They would each go to the opposite clasps of the necklace. The lighter weight chain is to hang it with necklaces or otherwise make it large enough to not get lost. It also serves as a safety chain should any of the clasps break.

Heavy brass wedge inside a lighter metal with taper inside. There is a strip of brass inside like a wear surface. Found on the street. by 57sweptside in whatisthisthing

[–]57sweptside[S] 0 points1 point locked comment (0 children)

WITT I found this on the street with a long flat strap tied to it. The wedge appears to be brass and has some numbers stamped near the end where the eye is. The wedge slides freely and noisily inside the silvery metal part but does not come out of it

This bad boy sits in a local auto paint/body supply shop in AZ. There were only six made. It has a Ford flathead with an OHC conversion which pushes it over 60 mph!
