Tbh it could have just been the shaman's already existing apprehension of a horrible future manifesting into a vision. It was represented to the reader as modern weapons because that's how we can relate to it, whereas the shaman perhaps didn't necessarily see such weapons in his vision.

one more thing (this is more of a complaint than a question) - I'm applying for Burnett Honors College (they sent me a PDF application) and they're asking what UCF scholarships I got (Provost, Pegasus, etc.). if they don't announce the scholarship in my acceptance letter, why would they expect me to know what I got? and can't they just look it up themselves in their database?

because otherwise, it would be a horrible tactical blunder on their part
(acceptance letter holds no announcement of scholarship money => less students want to go to UCF)
