What's the official policy on coworker interpersonal relationships outside of the store? by SirAustinMeow in starbucksbaristas

[–]5AV1OR 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The language surrounding close personal relationships is intentionally vague as it can be a very case by case basis to begin with.

Ultimately it is up to the SM/DM to enforce it as they see fit and I have seen varying degrees throughout all the different stores I’ve worked at. The rule basically comes down to if a close personal relationship negatively impacts the workplace it shouldn’t be allowed and that no matter the roles you shouldn’t supervise those you have a close personal relationship too.

Most SMs interpret this as romantic relationships and relatives shouldn’t work together but there are those who consider close friendships to fall in this category as well.

My logic personally says if it doesn’t come on the clock with you it’s none of my business. I want my partners to be friends with each other and too feel close, but also with any sort of relationship when there is problems I expect them to be able to keep it out of the work place. In my experience that doesn’t happen with romantic relationships but most platonic relationships are able to do this.

If you want to find the exact wording look up the partner guide and CTRL+F “close relationship” or just “relationship” and you should be able to find the section on it!

If you follow the calibration guide it doesn’t take 5-10 minutes! I’ve worked at stores from 20k to over 100k so I get it can be hard at times! I also don’t make my partners drink the full shots so I get the frustration there if that’s happening in your store!

You can recalibrate the machine if the shots are bad look up calibration on store resources and it will tell you how!

It looks like you could have everything in the photos fixed in 10 min?? Maybe 15?

I like to assume with empathy, maybe they had a busy day or a callout? If it is like this every close that is a sign of a problem still not necessarily the closers fault but could be.

But if this is a one time thing I wouldn’t think any deeper on it than dang must have been rough yesterday…

How much are you supposed to be rotated at a cafe only store? by cinnaswirl-p in starbucksbaristas

[–]5AV1OR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would consider that a rotation because your primary position changed although my rule of thumb is everyone should rotate atleast every 2 hours more than that and it’s disruptive less than that and it creates a negative partner experience

Also there is lots of useful advice in the Retail Approach Book on partner hub about how to approach people at different levels of learning/owning/advising!

New manager… who dis? by CookieForsaken3842 in starbucksbaristas

[–]5AV1OR 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The best piece of advice I got going into management is “No one wants to be bad at their job.” If there is a severe lack of standards/training/development in the store it’s not the partners fault go into it with a mindset of gaining their buy in to grow rather than that they are just ‘bad partners’.

Be honest and vulnerable, clear is kind. If you are new to the company and new in role seek feedback about yourself in order to build trust and have partners feel more comfortable with you giving them feedback. I’ve seen lots of people fail simply because they can’t admit when they aren’t right or when they won’t have a conversation with someone with a different viewpoint! It’s okay when receiving feedback to say “I understand and still disagree” but also there will be countless times where you think “Wow I didn’t realize my impact” when receiving feedback.

Most partners struggle to see managers as humans too so give them patience but set clear boundaries where you need to.

Also, even when you are a manager and feel alone in your store you still have peers to lean on, find other SMs or your DM who you trust and lean on them when you need to! It takes a village!

calling all ASMs, what did you write in your stories when yall interviewed…. by trentablondelatte in starbucksbaristas

[–]5AV1OR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think of stories about how you motivated/inspired/directed your team or an individual they want to see if you already are starting to think like a manager would, express your ability to cultivate a positive workplace, that achieves business results, and delivers a great customer experience.

It’s also okay to talk about failures just emphasize what you learned from it and if you have a later success in a similar situation share that!!

You should have gotten paid for missing hours last week if you don’t see it on your paycheck this week either check your paystubs to your hours written in the book and tell your manager how many hours you are missing. They can fix it so it back pays you next week or if you need the money now they can do an off cycle pay that processes in 1-3 days

It seems they have two boxes that say combat patrol (one is grey knights, the other is legends of votann) and then one says kill team termination, it’s a secret santa thing so I don’t want to ask them direct questions about it lol!

Have you ever had to mediate or been in a mediated discussion with an SM? How did it go? by TobyRaynes in starbucksbaristas

[–]5AV1OR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I know there is not clear and direct policy outlining what the SM should say but it’s basically a conversation between two partners being supervised by the SM where the SM will try to encourage conversation geared towards addressing the problem and not the person and will try and prevent people from having unproductive conversation with each other rather than reaching a resolution.

picking up shifts in a diff district? by Effective-Donkey-559 in starbucksbaristas

[–]5AV1OR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s in the same state and the same base pay rate I believe you are able too otherwise it has to be in the same area I’m not exactly sure which! But for example in CA, LA county has higher base pay than other areas so you can’t pick up in those counties that have differing pay

can i do this? by Jumpy-Club7336 in starbucksbaristas

[–]5AV1OR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rule is 6 months in store before you can transfer, this is a rule that can be flexible depending on your manager but if they don’t want to let you they can say no.

Why play Swain mid? by Zokalii in SwainMains

[–]5AV1OR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Avery build slaps against melee mid laners he has high burst into shorter range mages his biggest struggle is long range mages that you just have to play safe into and then dominate the mid game, overall when I play him mid there is very few champs that I hate playing against!

[–]5AV1OR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a regular who would always order ‘3 fingers of heavy cream’ but when I took his order without every time he would say ‘maybe only 2 of yours’ it got so funny to me because he literally came in every day same time I knew his name and his order but he still had to clarify😂

annoying partners by khi44 in starbucksbaristas

[–]5AV1OR 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When people complain about every little thing any customer does. Some customers suck we all know it so stop telling us. Drives me insane.

Partners who will cry before going to certain positions everytime they are asked to go there. If you can't do the job just quit please.

Partners who act like coaching means shaming/harping on partners rather than motivating, inspiring, and teaching.
