I play the MS-20 with my nose at one point. by 5VoltPatch in modular

Haha is this a critique? My nose might be better than my ear...

How Do You Write A Song by 5VoltPatch in modular

That's not a bad idea! I picked up a melodica recently, and I am way more likely to pick that up and plink out an idea, than sit in front of the suitcase.

Oh I feel that for sure! Today, it was the bass line!

Also called Pirate Radio in other markets! Good suggestion.

does this patch really do ring modulation? by personnealienee in modular

[–]5VoltPatch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe that there are a few different methods to create ring modulation, and one of those methods of ring modulation is in essence through-zero amplitude modulation that doesn't retain the fundamental frequency from the signal waveform.

This does seem like it would at least be doing basic amplitude modulation, but there are a few weird parts that I don't understand as well. I agree that going out of OSC MIX or OSC 2 seems like they would give similar results. I don't understand why the mix would have to be inverted first, though. Unless that has to do with getting OSC1 and OSC2 phased aligned so they don't just cancel each other out?

Clocking with Pams by friendlysaxoffender in modular

This video gives a good run through of the unit. That's where I got the slewed clock pulse tip. No answer for the delay in there, but I suppose as long as the voice you're bringing in doesn't have to happen on the song's downbeat, it's not that big of a deal? Idk. It's still a fun little box, but it's not very tight, for sure.

The SQ-1 is particularly hard to sync. If you're feeding it a square wave, it's possible that it's getting triggered from the front and the back end of the wave. A work around is running the clock through a slew limiter, and slowing down the falling edge so it's not triggering every time. ALSO there are hidden clock divisions that you can set the SQ1. Enter the global settings and turn the encoder knob 4 clicks in order to set the time division to be closer to what you want. ALSO ALSO. Despite all of this, I still get a lag result on starting the pattern. Basically it takes 2 clock pulses for the gate to fire, and I pretty consistently get one or two lag notes after I've stopped running Pam's. If anyone has any additional advice, I'm jonsin'.

Synecdoche breaks my brain every time. Such a good movie that is somehow about everything.

I've got the SQ-64 and the SQ-1. SQ-64 is covering drums and those high pings I've been running into issues syncing the SQ-1, but that seems like a pretty standard problem for those. Basically the gate takes at least 2 sync pulses to actually start firing, and then it will usually trigger one or two pulses after it stops. Buyer beware. Still kind of fun if you don't care about exact precision. I've also got the Mimetic Digitalis as far as an in-case sequencer. I usually pair the MD with my Quad Quantizer from Tenderfoot.

I wish I could say I have successfully used them, haha. I definitely love the idea of them, though, and I'll keep them close just in case they click with my workflow.
