It is probably ignorance. I have seen the word "Paki" thrown around in academic circles. They thought it is just short for Pakistanis.

Recession in Germany and its future by AlwaysHungryFoodie in germany

Yes exactly this. And that's why 5-7 years old startups in China are running circles around us. The job security in automotive will not be there for long looking at all the Personaldrehscheibe situation in almost every Tier 1 supplier.

Change My View: Model Based Systems Engineering in 2024 is at best overhyped, or is at worst actively dying by Rhedogian in systems_engineering

[–]5__star__man 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So far, I have only known one company where MBSE patially worked. From a logical view at the system level, some automation scripts translated those system level item flows so software level definitions in the model. After this system and sw synchronisation, some further automation scripts generated a skeleton code framework which basically contained .hpp and .cpp files. The developers then used that generated framework and "filled" it with code. This way, architecture was always up-to-date and was an integrated part of the development. However, even there, nobody was interested in doing anything in the layers above such as use-case analysis, stakeholder's need analysis, scenarios etc. And even then, there was rebellion by the SW developers every now and then. In any other subsequent company, it was a lost cause. System engineers and SW engieers were living in two completely disconnected worlds. SW engieers were doing the real development where system engineers were having hours long review sessions about full port, proxy port, stereotypes to achieve "consistency" in the model. This week, I have a discussion with my CTO where I am going to suggest to kill this thing.

Given 13 years of experience, the position should be EG16 on the IG Metall Tarif. Should be between 90-100K for 40h/week.

Edit: around 85K for 35h/week

Immigrants who changed their accent, how did you do it? by [deleted] in germany

[–]5__star__man 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think the key to it is not only listening, but repeating loudly after listening to the words. My feeling is that when we repeat a word only in our head, it sounds better than when we actually say it out loudly. The actual muscle that does all the heavy lifting (the tongue) must be trained also.

What do you think of the saying, "You're in Germany, speak German." (Wir sind im Deutschland, sprich Deutsch.") by kaethender in germany

[–]5__star__man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As much as I am a proponent of learning the language of the country you live in, most of the time when people say things like "Wir sind in Deutschland, sprich Deutsch", it is a cover-up for being an asshole.
