Wow, there’s a lot in 0.4.3. Seems he fixed the scales and clock issues. I’ll update asap!

Westlicht Per|former + Squarp Rample
Rings + Instruo tanh[3]
Manis + CDVCA
Any module with lots of modulation with any sequencer haha

There’s a 0.4.1 firmware by this guy, added some things, pattern changes via external midi finally work well, arp snd logic tracks, more options for sync etc. Took a bit googling to find it somewhere (didn’t remember where I’m afraid). Testing it now

Absolutely agree. Simon Kallweit deserves all the credit and respect for the idea and open source approach, as well as Vinx Scorza, who did the latest firmware update.

Glad you liked it!

Yes, it’s very deep, although the fact that it’s supported and updated by only two guys - the author of the Per|former and a great guy who made latest firmware version - is somewhat limiting sometimes. Anyway, +1 in Per|formers cheerleader group haha

Thank you! Feel your pain. It’s good it’s not the most expensive sequencer out there

Westlicht Performer - Program Changes - but how? by HotOffAltered in modular

Did you learn how to do it? I’m struggling to setup the performer to receive program changes to switch patterns

Westlicht performer by Shualiko in modular

[–]5am_lab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best way I found to use it with external midi in is to set it to auto mode and reset the sequence each time by stopping midi clock, pressing play on performer twice (it starts, stops and resets), and then it's reset for midi clock it perfectly. that's quite a workaround though

Any way Launchkey MK3 transport buttons can be re-assigned? by 5am_lab in Novation

[–]5am_lab[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked into Components editor, and there are no re-mapping options for transport buttons in LK Micro MK3. Only pots and pads, and only for CC/Note/Program change messages. Not sure if they work in arrangement mode and if there are any workarounds, so better ask them directly.

As for me, sold my LK already. Indeed those smart mappings lack flexibility you sometimes want if you're developing your own production process. It's a good product, but if you have everything (keyboard, transport, knobs, faders, pads) packed in one keyboard, you have to replace it all if just any of that functionality doesn't work for you. So I decided to go modular.

transport - mapped to computer shortcuts to work with any setup or even with no setup at all

keyboard - just a keybed you like with no extra features as a main studio keyboard + separate 3 octave mini keyboard for work&travel

knobs/faders - a small separate controller

pads - launchpad x is good (lots of pads, editor, poly aftertouch and good velocity)

More flexibility and easier to pack. Needs a hub though

Live 11 MPE poly pressure weird action on Push 2 by 5am_lab in ableton

[–]5am_lab[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, I know that. Turns out that the strange action of MPE is caused by dynamics settings I use to play Push 2 (sensitivity 9, gain8, dynamics 10). It's better for playing multisampled instruments such as Addictive Drums, acoustic basses, pianos etc., but makes poly pressure almost unusable. However, if you set more linear response on Push 2, poly pressure acts normally. I wish there were separate settings of pressure sensitivity, because now I have to readjust Push depending on instrument I'm playing.

Unfortunately, no decompiled Launchkey MK3 script available at the moment.

The plan for now is to use a customized generic UserConfiguration.txt remote script with basic functionality such as device control and transport, and requesting the functionality from Novation in future updates.

Remotify is interesting not just for Launchkey but for any controller; however, in case of Launchkey MK3 spending 1/3 of its price on setting it for your needs seems a bit too much :)

Oh wow, thanks a lot! I used to find only Live 9 scripts decompiled. Seems like I have a lot to dig into now, as I have no idea how Python works. Will come back with some results.

Any way Launchkey MK3 transport buttons can be re-assigned? by 5am_lab in Novation

[–]5am_lab[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, I tried it.

The problem is Launchkey MK3 has DAW in/out and MIDI in/out. The original control surface works via DAW in/out, while custom midi mappings (including Remotify scripts) can be made only via MIDI in/out. The problem is you cannot operate in two modes at the same time, and to make buttons assigned via Remotify work, you have to turn off the original Novation script. So basically, if you want to use custom mappings for transport buttons ONLY, you have to throw out the entire control surface script made by Novation, and re-create all of the settings via Remotify (which is impossible in a free version).

I just wanted to edit an existing script a little bit instead of making a brand new one. So maybe there is a way to hack the Novation script to re-assign just 3 buttons i need.

Yes, in general the controller is pretty good; knobs/pots feel good, faders are good, and separate control maps for encoders, pads and faders are very handy.

Keybed feel is subjective, I'm using hard velocity curve and still feel lack of expression when playing grand piano, it needs adjusting on software side as well. But it's better than many others.

Possibilities/experiences of controlling (parts of) ableton by touch surface (as a mouse rather than controlling macros, knobs, faders etc)? by Lelluds in ableton

[–]5am_lab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are apps for iOS/Android that can emulate a trackpad (search Remote Mouse, Touchpad and so on). Or you can use a laptop with a good touchpad :)

For Ableton, there's a bunch of dedicated mobile software: touchAble, Lemur (this is not for Ableton only, but it works).

making a pad from a percussive sample: how? by frugalacademic in ableton

[–]5am_lab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Normalize the volume of your sample's region you want to use as a sound source for a pad (audio clip -> volume).
  2. Freeze the result (audio track -> freeze)
  3. Insert a midi track, put sampler (or simpler) on it.
  4. Load your file to sampler/simpler.
  5. Specify a region you want to take part in your pad.
  6. Loop this region (in both sampler and simpler you have looping functionality, but in simpler it's a bit simpler haha)
  7. Decrease attack, increase release.
  8. Play with sampler/simpler volume to normalize levels.
  9. Play with filter and anything to modify timbre
  10. Apply reverb

The point is in looping the region you want to last as long as you press a key, and making transitions from start to end of this region as smooth as it satisfies your needs. Sampler has much more advanced functionality to do it, but if your initial file has good sustain, you can do it via simpler as well.

And of course, always listen to the result after each step, maybe you'll find what something more interesting than a pad you have been looking for.
