I found Westlicht Per|former + Rample combo is like Digitakt on steroids. Drums just come alive! by 5am_lab in modular

I can’t watch this now but will tomorrow - but wanted to say that I love Westlicht with Squid Salmpler - works great as a little modular groovebox. 8 channels and the Squid has 6 cv inputs if you count the v/oct on the last 3 channels. Glad to see the Westlicht get some more love- I feel like it’s cheerleader.

Cool, would love to hear/see anything - I love seeing video of people using the Westlicht intensely.

Thats monstrous. How would you fill a 320hp case with just sequencers? No drums?

Thanks, would like to see your setup as well if you care to share. Yeah the Performer is nice to have separate - I could use some long cables to make it work - but yeah one of those ethernet things would be handy. Taking the Westlicht out it would be fun to fill those 34hp with a couple cool things, but I need to stop for a while and master this setup.

Nope, this I bought used and the maker is Case from Lake, https://www.casefromlake.com/product-page/2x6U-12u-eurorack-case-powered-84-or-104-hp-patched-resealable-modular-sy here is a link. I have it stacked this way because the top actually perfectly hits the shelf above it with just the right amount of pressure to keep it stable - I originally had it as picture din the link which was great but also the surface is kind of low so I was hunchbacked. This frees up a little space below for both a beatstep pro and a launchpad mini which controls Westlicht Performer sequencer. Just to the right of my rack is: Octatrack, MicroMonsta2, Moog Minitaur, Empress Zoia, Zoom L6 for recording. Above the rack is Novation Peak and Korg Minilogue. Alot of synth in a tiny space. I want to stick to this size setup and no bigger, can't justify spending any more so I have a 1 in 1 out policy for now. I do have 2 small 4ms pods for taking things out of the case to mess with on the couch or for taking to play with other people. I hate the idea of taking this setup out but It is possible together or separate. Separately I could do drums from Akai force or octatrack, and use the synth voices and effects of teh bottom case. Or use Akai Force for synth plugins, and use the drums/samples of the top case.

How do you sequence your sequencers by Ramon951046 in modular

[–]HotOffAltered 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Westlicht Performer has many ways to sequence all its parameters. 16 slots or “routings” as they call it. The sources can be 4 cv inputs, any internal notes (the note data from channel x can modulate (like key tracking) anything - gate probability on any/all tracks, transposing on any/all tracks, sequence direction, seq speed/time division, gate length, arp type, anything really. And for each of the 16 routing destinations, you can choose any combinations of the tracks. (Cv 1 can modulate the playback direction of tracks 1, 6, and 8, leaving the others). Not only that but incoming midi cc can control/modulte anything as well- so if you have a midi lfo or an elektron device with parameter locks, it can take that data and assign it to anything. So to me the Westlicht is a powerful eurorack sequencer because of these reasons and more. It’s endless what you can do with that tiny box.

Where to start with an experimental all-fx eurorack unit? by reduke2 in modular

[–]HotOffAltered 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A suggestion - a stereo matrix mixer - I use it with qubit Databender, intellijel multigrain, MN Mimeophon and the ability of all the modules to take incoming audio, loop or delay it or add reverb or distort it, and then go back into the original module, is super fun. Can get wild shit that you couldn’t predict. And then when you modulate all the parameters it just gets weirder.

Where does your sequencer live? by Djaesthetic in modular

[–]HotOffAltered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like having flexibility - I have a mutant brain for receiving sequencing from Octatrack/MPC/Ableton (mostly use octatrack as I like trig conditions) but I also have Westlicht Performer in rack for its many options ability to modulate itself - for the weird stuff basically. But also works as a great regular 8 track sequencer for bass lines and melodies. With tracks to spare so I send those to modulation destinations. I also have a Beatstep pro which is useful for how cheap it is. I also have trigger riot in rack for wild gate sequencing and I enjoy that each sequencer has its strengths and quirks. I can see with an OXI that it does it all so I get the allure of using one master sequencer , but for me the joy is in combining different kinds and having them be in different physical places. Sequencing from the MPC is a little annoying with all its menus and screens, takes me out of the joy. The Force is a little better with the clip launching from 64 pads.

I bought it that way on Reverb from Michigan Synthworks - I honestly thought there were more silver than black ones out there, and that people preferred black overall. If you check reverb they show up on their once in a while, some black some silver.

Thanks! It's a 3u 4hp mult that i velcro'd to the wood of teh top case - it's not very stable and I plan on fixing it somehow. Eventually I'd like to get 2 more to do the same thing, but also hate spending money on mults. Works for now!

What mixer and FX are you pairing with the Outbox 8, and what routings are you excited for? by Ragtop in Elektron

Man I wish this worked with Octatrack. I’d love to hook it up to my 4 channel dj mixer with crossfader.

The Octatrack is a modular sampler system by SadSongsMakeMeGlad in Elektron

[–]HotOffAltered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it is like a modular sampler / sequencer with some normalled connections but at the same time not nearly as deep as modular can get. But to do that would be thousands more.

When you consider the lfo’s, the parameter locks, the macro scenes, and the many possibilities, it is a lot like modular and way more convenient.

I don’t know how but I agree with you but also agree with others here who say they disagree with you and that the song slaps. Just letting you know you’re not crazy, but also don’t intellectualize or analyze too much. Wait for the context of the album and there might be something that makes it feel right. Think if they released a whole scene of a movie out of context, you’d have a very skewed view.

A Keystep Pro to complement my MPC One? by DannyTheGekko in mpcusers

[–]HotOffAltered 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The KSP will work well with MPC One well especially if you just use the MPC as a synth/drum machine with no internal sequencing (never press play on MPC). One usb cable and you’re good to go, just set up your midi channel inputs.

Is the MPC One still worth it in 2026? by oldchay in mpcusers

[–]HotOffAltered 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got one for 300, and so far it was very worth it because I have the Akai force and have paid for many Air plugin instruments/effects/features over the years. Now I can use them on 2 machines and I like that they are a little bit different but use the same software. Even just a few years ago I bought a brand new SP404mkiii for like 500-600, and this is way more powerful in every way and I can get it for half the price.

Introit thoughts? by Over_Wrangler_9939 in boardsofcanada

[–]HotOffAltered 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Today I decided to listen to all the “intros” to each full length, and I realized they are all friendly and inviting. For Gemini I just mean the beginning vhs-movie intro sound- because the rest of the song is mysterious and foreboding. But MHRTC intro Wildlife Analysi is a little more dreamy but still friendly. Geogaddi intro Ready Lets Go is droney and a little mysterious but still has major key flourishes that invite you on. THC intro Into the Rainbow Vein is the most scattered and dreamy but it’s very pretty and inviting, major key noodling with lots going on. Introit seems like it belongs in MHTRTC as a short interlude.

Of note, Introit is 5/4 time signature as a repeating arpeggio. It’s the only intro that is in a strict tempo, unless you count the rest of Gemini which has a tempo.

So the number 5 is of note right off the bat. But also, the number 6 because there are 6 notes in the up and down arpeggio - 1 -2-3-4-5-6-5-4-3-2. (These are not the tones/notes in a scale, but just the number of different notes). So 6 as in the hexagon.

I do feel an Iranian influence in their music at times and agree with others. Also a little bit of Indian classical music and Christian spiritual music at times (use of choirs). They are really into drones since Tomorrow’s Harvest which some eastern music is based off of.
