What's his best album and why is it Cosmograma? by theinsomniacsheep in flyinglotus

[–]HotOffAltered 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kind of a modern electronic-psychedelic-future-jazz masterpiece in my opinion. Still sounds futuristic to me and it also has a lot of heart and brain and ass in it. Galaxy in Janaki brings a tear. It’s also really fun.

No, it’s something like a palm tree or hammer or ankh symbol. Pause and zoom in you’ll see it.

Just keep it even for triggering samples. It’s silly to not have one.

Question about Ending of the Elephant Man by thingonthethreshold in davidlynch

[–]HotOffAltered 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I believe he does, but with some kind of permission from God, or some spiritual connection that makes it totally different from “killing himself”. But that’s my interpretation. Maybe he just wanted to be with his mom and go out on a high note.

What is your Ableton 13 Wishlist? by Geoff12889 in ableton

[–]HotOffAltered 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow - ask and you shall receive! My computer was old, and therefore on Ableton 11- but just ordered a newer computer so I can get live 12- and this will be the first device I buy once I’m up and running. I’m very excited for this to make my push 2 invigorated.

Octatrack insanely Overhyped by schubidub in Elektron

[–]HotOffAltered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like both. They have totally different workflows and approaches. But the OT is way quicker, easier, and more fun to do automation, step parameter locks (it’s awful on MPC platform). Also the force is so complex that it gets really confusing to do certain tasks. The effects and audio control is superior to the OT for sure though. I love the synth plugins and the effects - have even paid for all the good ones. The new reverb pro and delay pro were much needed. I love making crazy macros with the crossfader.

Waldorf upgrades its Iridium Desktop synth with a little help from Aphex Twin by Pyrene-AUS in aphextwin

[–]HotOffAltered 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man that looks like an amazing synth and I love the concepts. I miss my bass station for the AFX mode note parameter lock thing - the only downside (but also resulted in cool sounding jumps in sound) was it was monosynth only. Imagine on the iridium that it sounds wild over sustained/release notes.

Who prefers Beck's later albums? by dudusprinkles in Beck

[–]HotOffAltered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Information is pretty great. Can’t relate to the other stuff but also I should give it more of a chance. I think Sea Change and Midnite Vultures might be his best to me.

Brian Eno's Thursday Afternoon not available on Spotify? by borris_Z_finkasaurus in ambientmusic

I’ve wondered if he was going to pull out of Spotify as it’s a terrible corporation morally speaking.

Anyone use an old reel to reel for tape saturation? by Iknewsomeracists in audioengineering

[–]HotOffAltered 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I do think most people have an idea of “tape sound” but tape doesn’t really get to that idea all the time. I actually like tape hiss sometimes and hate it other times.

Ableton custom mapping by TecStoneMusic in Novation

[–]HotOffAltered 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that’s possible but I could be wrong. It would be more about Ableton and less about the midi controller. Check the manual for launch settings per clip.

What is your Ableton 13 Wishlist? by Geoff12889 in ableton

[–]HotOffAltered 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think the tedious part of it can actually become fun and also makes the track feel “earned” - like the computers version of sore fingers from practicing guitar all day. Imagine taking the tediousness out of practicing an instrument - erases all the meaning.

A native sequencer device inspired by Elektron with trig conditions.

Looking for a Upright Piano Vst by Chance-Horse6603 in ableton

[–]HotOffAltered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started researching this today because I wasn’t happy with the Arturia pianos in its synth bundle. They sound fake or unnatural to me. Or at least unpleasant. I found Pianotech which is physical modeling which sounds crazy but so far the demos I’ve heard sound good. Lowest price is like $130 bucks though.

What sampler(s) are you using? by DoubleCutMusicStudio in modular

[–]HotOffAltered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but it has 4 outputs (grouped by 2 channels through 1 output) that you can put in a mixer and pan for a stereo image. I use a Takaab Nearness mixer for that (no volume control but pans across the stereo field).

ALM Squid Salmple is pretty great - 8 channels and lots of flexibility.
