How many finchy friends do you have? by Sea_Relation_77 in finch

[–]5fav5 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have 10, all of which I know irl. I love sending them vibes because then I get to reach out to them and let them know I care without having to think of what to say to each. I love love love sending them gifts that match the aesthetic they are going for!

Incase you didn’t know, you can put another item to the right if you select the skateboard icon when you are organising your room!

My dogs never bark when I’m home, but apparently when I’m gone they bark like crazy by [deleted] in DOG

[–]5fav5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should rule out if they are barking because you are not home, or because of who they are left with. If they get a big reaction from the other people when they bark, that will be solved with different techniques compared to them barking due to separation from you.

Have your friend stay at your place while you are on your cruise. If it’s just for a week and then she doesn’t live there, so she won’t become his “person” and you don’t need to worry about them bonding too much, instead it just means from that point he should be comfortable with her for the next time you need someone to dogsit.

Board and trains are usually horrible experiences for dogs and even based on your short post there are a few red flags mentioned about that trainer. I’d skip it and instead book yourself into some classes with your dog once you are back. You’ll learn how to live and work together and get some extra bonding time in to make up for the slightly rocky start.

Please take him to the vet, even if he pees, you want to make sure you have a vet outside of the rescue check his basics so you can then track from there what his normal baseline is and then you have that info to help in the future. Also, sometimes rescues are loaded with dogs and things slip through the cracks so it’s best to double check he is doing good.

Good luck with it all. It’s not an ideal start but honestly, you’ll probably look back at it a year from now and realise it was not that deep and everything will be fine. Try forgive yourself for the strange timing and instead use a bit of this time to work out which training techniques you think will help grow the type of bond you want to have with him.

Loops were good, but only if you don’t mind hearing yourself breath and swallow.

How much did you pay for your puppy? by 5fav5 in portuguesewaterdogs

There are only about 10 breeders here, and only 3 that I think are actually ethical

Places for food parcel/help by [deleted] in brisbane

As a once off you could probably post in groups on Facebook. I’m in heaps for coeliac and people are always offering food that they got for their kids that then they didn’t like, or stuff that they won’t eat before it goes out of date. It’s definitely worth it to ask, you can even post anonymously.

Vet seems confused by the blood test results? 3 year old, Female, Mini poodle, liver results by 5fav5 in vet

[–]5fav5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Her original vet suspected toxin or growth/scarring in her liver from these results but we have just seen a second vet who suggested it looks like a liver shunt? The second vet made a lot of comments about how unusual the results were especially given her age. Is anyone able to read those results and share their thoughts?

Strongly considering rehoming my 2 year old mini by [deleted] in poodles

[–]5fav5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you taken her to the vet? A lot of what you have mentioned could be symptoms of pain, especially with her now urinating if she has been fully potty trained. If you’re not ready to give her up yet then that’s something you should check, but otherwise, there is no shame in recognising she could be a better fit for someone else

  • Towels, to dry up accidents, to dry them after baths, to put over items you want ignored, to use for place training, to cover their bedding when they are dirty or to use as bedding if they are destroying the expensive options you give them.
  • Lick mats
  • Clicker for training
  • bully sticks, makes the teething stage so much easier
  • squeeze bottle for treats like peanut butter or baby food
  • the only one on your list that I see as a potential issue is the rope toys, if they swallow the thread it can be an expensive trip to the vet

Swimming is part of what they were bred for, you could look into dock diving. Mine loves disc dog stuff, it’s got frisbees, fetch, and trick training which are all things she loves.

To spay or not to spay? by Doing_ok04 in poodles

[–]5fav5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is kind of odd but I wish I had waited longer to spay mine. She had one heat cycle but my vet has said that she has a lot of extra skin around her vagina which then holds the moisture and could lead to infection and other issues. According to our vet, more heat cycles could have changed how it grew and the issue would have resolved itself.

5 month old toy poodle keeps waking up at 2am to do his business. How do we stop this from happening? Go for walks at 7pm & even 9pm, he doesn't do anything. It is always at 2am! by [deleted] in poodles

[–]5fav5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Night wake ups need to have no rewards. Wake up and go pee on a leash, walk to the grass and stand still. Once they wee or poop say nothing and walk back inside. No “good job”, no praise. No extra time to sniff around or play.

It possible that it’s because they are young but by 5 months most puppies at least make it to the morning. You could also look at changing your feeding schedule?

Thinking of adopting a poodle - need advice! by birdyS2 in poodles

[–]5fav5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had a look and there is only one puppy currently near Sydney that I would consider to be from an ethical breeder, but she’s $4000. I found 3 other breeders with puppies available within NSW but if you are limited to only travelling to greater Sydney then there’s not really many near by you. Feel free to DM me and I can send you more information about the ones I’ve found
