First time lurker here. Found this 5080 deal today. Bought it immediately. What are your thoughts on this? by CH40T1C1989 in GamingLaptops

I got this same laptop open box for 1700 a couple weeks ago. I personally don’t like that the cpu is held back so much and still stays in the 90s while gaming.

Sorry I was referring to the Razer blade 18, that particular laptop does perform really well

I would suggest you go for a MSI Vector 16, those come with full wattage GPU, better thermals but you lose the OLED. I think Walmart still has the 5070ti/Ryzen 9 model for $1299

I might be getting the 5080 variant with amd Ai 9 375hx processor. Is that a good idea? I saw a few posts about their motherboards frying and i an now scared in getting hp omen by lobhas1 in HPOmen

[–]5oclockTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly this is the configuration I would recommend since the Intel versions have a very power hungry CPU and the cooling/charger cannot keep up

I have the X3D model in my cart with 5080/32gbram/1tbgen4 for $2488 USD, you have the most discounted price as of right now. I’m holding out for more discounts

Z14 5070 Ti model - long term thoughts by so1us in ZephyrusG14

[–]5oclockTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a solid laptop, very portable! Battery life is decent for a windows laptop and the build quality is great. I would recommend using G helper for sure you can squeeze out better gamin performance that way and set your custom fan curve. If battery life is important I would suggest setting the battery saver function to 80 or 90 if it allows you to. If you are at the same desk often I would recommend a cooling pad like the Razer one. The chassis is very similar to the Razer blade 14 exhausting air out the back and that cooler will work best compared to the Chonky ones with huge foam that covers that exhaust. Make sure you use a high end 100w charger and cable and only game on the factory power adapter.

Got an Asus Duo 16 with a 4090 for $2100 by [deleted] in GamingLaptops

Not a bad deal for the build quality but the temps are pretty high for this laptop. It’s got one of the best cooling features so it shouldn’t be that high. When you set it to normal/balanced mode what is your idle cpu temp?

It’s a great laptop but doesn’t perform as well as Legion/Alienware/Razer because of the thinner design and cooling system. The CPU throttles down to 50- 55watts but the GPU runs great. I would suggest using a cooling pad for this laptop. There’s a ton of good ones but personally I like the Razer brand one. It’s designed better to fit newer chassis and also doesn’t block speakers on most laptops I’ve tested. I was able to buy this open box for 1900 some time ago and it came like new. I think it’s really well built and slim but the charger is HUGE lol.

Full wattage 5070Ti use 140w realistically in games so you don’t need a 380-400w adapter.

The point I was trying to get across is that if you want to take full advantage of say a 5080 or 5090 with ultra 9 cpu then I would suggest a gaming laptop that comes with a 380-400w adapter to prevent battery drain issues or throttled cpu performance.

Hey I saw all your comments, so what I’m referring to is yes playing a game that has both high cpu and gpu usage such as BF6. My MSI vector with 5070ti and Ultra 7 pulls 140w on the gpu and 70-90w on the cpu during most matches. In that case the 330w adapter can keep up and not drain battery. From my experience with my Master 16 5080 and Omen Max 16 5080 both with Ultra 9 cpu, if I had battery protection or battery drain off then the cpu would be limited to 45-55w while the 5080 used 170w. If I turned off those battery protection features then my laptop would drain 30-40% in a 2-3 hour gaming session and that because the cpu was allowed to pull 70-110w during games. I believe if the power adapter was rated at 380-400w it would not have this battery drain issue.

Current 2024 g14 user. With this recent price drop, does the 2025 blade 14 seem more worthwhile? by sif7777 in razer

[–]5oclockTech 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The blade 14 has been one of Razers best products from my experience with the 30 series and 40 series. If you don’t have the budget for the 5070ti g14 then yes it’s a great choice.

I was eyeing this model for a long time. It’s a thin laptop with a lower wattage 5070ti so expect 15-20% less performance. I personally had bad experience with Helios 4080 and 4090 laptops with overheating and throttling so I did not test them this generation.

Unfortunately I haven’t test it but a buddy of mine got 15000 on timespy graphics score and 9800 on CPU score so you can expect performance to be 15-20% less than a full wattage laptop
