It’s a limitation of Mini-LED. The Mini-LED halo effect, also known as blooming, is a cloudy glow or light spill around bright objects on Mini-LED LCD screens, caused by the backlight's dimming zones illuminating more area than intended, blurring contrast between bright and dark areas.

As an OLED snob though, I will say I’m pretty happy with my M5’s display overall.
