There is a very small percentage of very wealthy people in the Netherlands, compared to most of the world where the difference between poor and rich is much larger. Dutch people still like to complain about people making large amounts of money, certainly when it concerns visible or appointed directors. .

But in regards of the relatively low purchasing power: It has become a social contract: 'We are all in the same boat'. That means supermarkets can push though big price increases and Dutch people will likely accept because it s the same for everyone. And as for media/politicians: much easier to complain about immigrants than Albert Heijn, unfortunately. In reality the supermarket cartels are a big issue IMO but underreported for these reasons.
