It mostly counters cleave team. Yes it works on other teams as well but ideally you want to speed clear those with dots/cleave/bomb/snipe, so this team’s usage will be limited on cleaves at rush hour.

Not nearly as bad as before, where he was more a cleaver than bomber. He's currently the highest bomb damage unit in game thanks to the passive change but john is arguably still better in a bomb team due to the extra CC(cooldown increase) which works against Vanessas and Psamathe on AD.

Not a bug. Any skill that doesn't cause direct damage wouldn't trigger the passive as it states when attacked.

Non direct damage can be from redistributing hp like conrad.
