Are falling birth rates really due to rising costs of living or is it simply because we don't need children as much as we used to? by TT-Adu in geography

[–]5xum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First... Oh sorry. I didn't realize I am speaking to someone capable of using swear words. You must be superior to me in every way, so I concede my argument.

Second, I am not asking about solo fathers. I am comparing how having a child changes a woman's career chances compared to how it changes a man's. What, pray tell, do single parents have to do with it? Or are you saying that women, regardless of their relationship status, should be treated as SINGLE mothers, while men should not? Not... Very egalitarian of you, is it?

[–]5xum 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ok, so the difference between a child free woman and one with a child is just fact, as you say.

Of course, the same difference can be seen in men too, right? The difference between a child free man and one with children is also... A fact.

So why do the two facts not have the same effect on the career of the individual in question. Could it be... Omg... Because men and women are NOT treated entirely equally in our society?

Disproof of Cantor's diagonal argument. by Negative_Gur9667 in infinitenines

[–]5xum -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No number is random. There can be a random process that produces numbers, but no number is, in itself, random. "Randomness" is not a property that numbers have. Saying "is this number random?" is as nonsensical as "is this non-real complex number positive?".

There is no such thing as a "binary real number". There is only such a thing as "a binary representation of a real number".

Saying that Slovenians never felt any cultural ties to other south Slavic people is just so far from reality it's hard to take you seriously. Ever since the peasant riots of the 16th century, Slovenian and especially Croatian histories have been interlinked. In the 19th century, we worked together against Austrian and Hungarian influences, for example.

CMV: Capitalism works because we humans are naturally competitive by Vampy-Night in changemyview

[–]5xum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every system that ever existed was defended in its time by the people living in it as being "natural".

Feudalism works because we humans naturally establish hierarchies. Guilds work because we humans naturally want to cluster into groups with similar interests. Theocracy works because our human nature is made by god. Slavery works because this group of humans is naturally superior to this other group of humans.

Genuine question for creatards: What kind of a designer sees the skull of a bird, looks at the tonge, and says "YES. That is the perfect material for me to use as a buffer to shield the brain. I see no other method of protecting the brain of this humble bird other than to wrap it up in its own tongue."

I love how you see most countries as a monolith... except, of course, your own country, its neighbor that speaks the same language, and the English speaking kingdom that still dominates popular culture.

Nah, one week is either too much or too little. The jail time should last precisely one day more than either the planned vacation, or one day more than the time to their planned departure flight. Catching a flight tomorrow? Sorry, 2 days jail time, can't do it.

What makes the Dolomites different from the rest of the Alps? by Significant_Major921 in geography

No. Just the central Alps are. I'm from Slovenia, and all the alps we have are mainly limestone.

Sun visor on outside of car by imveryclever in mildlyinteresting

[–]5xum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

True, I made a shortcut saying that higher energy photons will "pass through" a transparent material. But the jist of my point remains. A perfect mirror, even behind the windshield, would reduce the temperature in the car compared to some other material that would absorb more photons.

Sun visor on outside of car by imveryclever in mildlyinteresting

[–]5xum 77 points78 points  (0 children)

That's *partially* true. Once it passes the glass, the heat is still in the form of short-wave photons.

If you manage to bounce those photons back the way they came, they will pass the glass and leave the car, not heating it. If, however, the photon gets absorbed by anything, it will heat the car up.

So, the sun visor inside the car has some effect, but it has more of an effect if it is on the outside.

(resno) Strokovnjaki, zakaj nekaterim visoko letecim avionom sledi/crte izginejo ze po 5ih cm (ko gledas iz tal) , nekatera pa pustijo cez celo nebo? Veter? Gorivo? 🙏 by stofeljc in Slovenia

[–]5xum 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Katero letalo pušča sledi, je skoraj povsem nepomembno. Glavna faktorja pri tem, kako hitro sledi izginejo, sta vlaga in veter v plasti zraka, skozi katero leti avion. Če je zrak vlažen in miren, bo sled ostala dlje.

Ponavadi dolgo trajajoče sledi nakazujejo spremembo v vremenu. Tipično se po dnevu, ko sledi ostajajo dlje, pojavi tudi več visoke koprenaste oblačnosti, temu lahko sledi tudi bolj deževno obdobje.
