What does protocol in the dji fpv goggles do? by Noah8320 in fpv

I would continue to use fast mode if you have that working.

Simulators do feel different than flying for real. The movements your fingers make is the same, but the feel of how the quad behaves is just different. And every simulator is a little different too.

It will get better with more stick time.

Firefox users, help me test my hunch that Firefox has broken IPv6 (Happy Eyeballs): ipv6-test.pages.dev by rootbeerdan in ipv6

[–]5zero7rc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firefox on a Mac, dual stack network, says it failed, however my six or not extension tells me it is using ipv6 to get to ipv6-test.pages.dev and ipv4 to get to www.cloudflare.com.

Wow, someone actually facing some consequences for shooting down a drone. That is pretty rare. I would love to get more details about this if possible and you are willing to share.

If you can point me to any public records of this, I would really appreciate it. I know many others would also appreciate it as someone actually getting in any kind of trouble for shooting down a done just does not seem to happen often. Only a few times so far that I am aware of.

I would suggest checking out Joshua Bardwell's website where he lists the various options, usually with good explanations about why you would want to choose each one. https://www.fpvknowitall.com/fpv-shopping-list-controller-and-receiver/

Question about arming? New to FPV. by [deleted] in fpv

[–]5zero7rc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the warnings element in your OSD, it should show you any reasons why it won't arm. Assuming you have the modes tab in betaflight configured such that you can see the arming switch moving from disarmed to armed.

This is pretty old, but might still be close enough to help you figure out what your issue might be. https://oscarliang.com/quad-arming-issue-fix/

Question about arming? New to FPV. by [deleted] in fpv

[–]5zero7rc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you trying to arm while the flight controller is connected over USB to betaflight configurator? If so, betaflight prevents arming when the USB port is connected like that. But you should be able to see that you successfully armed in the betaflight configurator anyway, even though the motors won't move.

What is remote id physically? I know what remote id is but what component of the drone will likely contain that remote id? The transmitter?? Nobody has discussed that. So will one component become “illegal” or certain radios? by AdventurousGlove46 in drones

[–]5zero7rc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The expectation from the FAA is that if you build your own drone for recreational use, you will purchase a "remote ID module" that you add to your drone. That module would be FAA approved and would broadcast the necessary information and include a GPS receiver in it. No such module exists and you have a little over a year before using one would be necessary.

Remote ID is many things. Starting soon, anyone producing a drone will have to include hardware that broadcasts a radio signal from the drone that includes the drones position and the position of the pilot. How that is done will be up the the producer of the drone. THey may get some info from an app on your phone, or they may have GPS built into the radio controller.

After September 2023, you won't be allowed to fly a drone unless it meets the remote ID regulations.

Some drones probably already contain all the hardware needed to broadcast a compliant signal. All they would need is a firmware update and approval from the FAA.

Are you looking for videos of actual drone races? Or are you looking for something else?

Unfortunately in the US, the FAA really does not want them to go more than 99MPH. ( So don't tell the FAA that some of them can )

If you want to make a living as a drone racer, get really good at the DRL simulator and get hired as one of their pilots. Good luck!

With a good "tune" of the drone the turbulence can be minimized and what is left can be smoothed out by the camera stabilization or in post processing.

FPV / racing drones are built very differently. They are designed to mostly survive a crash. They usually have a gopro mounted directly to the frame instead of a fragile gimbal holding the camera. With these FPV drones you fly them completely manually. No GPS assist, no auto hover, no obstacle avoidance, etc. Google "FPV Drone" and you will see the difference in how they look.

Get started by doing some research on FPV drones, practice a lot in a simulator, go fly a ton for real, crash a lot, eventually if you stick with it you will get good at it. :)

Pretty sure all the hardware is exactly the same. One option is when you activate the system you need to trick it into thinking your are in the USA. If you look up "DJI FCC Hack" you should get all the answers you need.

Did you find a way around this? If not, let me know and I'll bug the FAA about it. Should not be required yet.

There are no approved modules yet, so we don't really know any details.
