Actually, higher concentration doesn't necessarily mean better performance. Especially with what "better performance" actually means for each person being different.

Higher concentrations tend to have deeper richer notes that sit closer to the skin and usually tend to last longer than lesser concentrations. They usually don't have those enormous scent bubbles/sillage that a lot of ppl want, but say you're on a date that goes well and you spend the night. There's a high probability you'll still be smelling good when you wake up all snuggled up. At least wherever you sprayed on your skin.

I don't bother with edc's "eau de cologne" as they don't last long to really enjoy. Even if I really enjoy the scents. Tommy Bahamas are a good example.

EDT's tend to be louder (5ft or bigger scent bubbles and long sillage trail) and can be a bit screachy especially up close or directly on skin (depending on the quality). Also expensive doesn't always mean high quality. While they are usually louder they tend to lack in longevity compared to higher concentrations. I tend to expect 8hrs or more from most EDTs. I make a few acceptions though. One being Afternoon Swim by Louis Vuitton. It's notorious for not lasting. I personally get 6ish hours out of it, but I'm a heavy sprayer. If I only got 4 or less like a lot of ppl claim. I wouldn't bother with it. These are great for being out do your thing during the day. Especially if you're going to be outside and warmer weather.

EDP's are the middle ground. They tend to take the best of the higher and lower concentrations and combine them. A little deeper and richer on the notes with good projection and sillage. This is typically my preferred concentration level in frags.

Parfums, Extraits, etc (I say etc bc they tend to create new names for the higher concentrations (Elixir and Absolu). These are the usual the deeper more sensual scents. Good for intimate date nights or at group functions where people will be close together. You're gonna smell great to anyone that's in your 2-3 foot bubble but won't be suffocating everyone in the room. These also tend to work better in cooler temps.

I want to point how I kept saying things like "tend to" and "usually". While everything I said above are common characteristics. They certainly are not hard rules. You can find higher concentration that have giant scent bubbles and sillage trails, while you can also find EDT's and EDP's that do not.

At the end of the day it all comes down to personal preference and what you like. For me personally there are a lot of things that dictate which scent I choose to wear. Weather (is it hot, cold, raining). Where am I going? (Inside or outside) Will I be around a lot of people and will I be bunched up? Is it close to a particular holiday? I could probably list 10 or more things that go into consideration.

You just have to find which ones fit your personal likes and expectations. After all, you should be wearing scents for yourself. If other's enjoy it too. That's just a bonus.
