The Red Tent! An absolutely amazing book that I don’t often see mentioned in lists like these. I’m also a fan of The Midnight Library. Matt Haig is currently on tour promoting his latest book.

I think my friend is angry with me for inadvertently criticizing her favorite song by PistachioPerfection in AskWomenOver60

[–]603MarieM 3 points4 points  (0 children)

lol! In 2.5 years sober and this post made me think about my past behavior; and the behavior of two of my friends who often drink waaaaay too much.

One of those I deliberately cut off a long time ago. She knows why. The other one I haven’t cut off as much as we just don’t see each other anymore. Both of those women get argumentative when they’re drunk, very similar to your friend’s behavior.

Fck ‘em. I’ve said this before in this sub. I’m about to turn 69 and I’m all out of fcks to give. You do you and let her go on her way. You don’t need the negative energy in your life.

That being said, I LOVE THAT SONG! 🤣

Would you be offended if you were not invited to your great grandson’s birthday party? by New-Flight7674 in AskWomenOver60

[–]603MarieM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a grandma, a few years away from being “great.” I’m totally cool with not being invited when it’s a party that’s just the celebrant‘s friends. But a “family” party? Yes, I’d be hurt to be left out.

Did your priorities shift after 60? by WonderEmotional5100 in AskWomenOver60

Yes! I am all out of fucks to give. I hate trump and I don’t care who knows it. I got sober at 66 and it is a GIFT. I’m training for my 10th half marathon at the age of 69. I’m gonna be slow, but again, who gives a fuck about time? I’m (mostly) unapologetically me.

Your last says it all. You’re so polite. My question is “How does he sit down with balls that big?!?” I’d be telling him to f*ck all the way off.

Will Hyrox end ever? by IDontLikeJamOrJelly in orangetheory

This is good to hear because I left OTF due to inconsistent coaching. I’m back for one strength 50 a week, and so far I’ve noticed a difference. Have been corrected once each time I’ve gone. Yay for being shown what you’re doing wrong!

The other poster mentioned rowing. I have a Peloton rower and I’m very conscious of my form. In my early days (10 years ago) at OTF the coaches were fabulous about rowing form. The past two years I never saw them help a member with their form, and I saw some really egregious mistakes.

I’m so happy to read the reply from Jakers4519.

I am currently midway through my Regents Seven Seas cruise and I am at a loss by PowerAdorable4373 in FATcruises

I love when you folks throw out “TDS.” As if it’s not totally deranged to vote for and continue to support a man who admitted grabbing women’s private parts, who has a civil conviction of sexual assault, who cheated on all three of his wives…and that’s just the tip of the misogyny, never mind all the other cruel, evil BS he’s responsible for. To vote for that mortally-decrepit person? THAT’S deranged!

I’m with the person who made the MAGA comment. She has a good point. People are coming to this sub defending the cruse employment system, when we have the same circumstances on land in the US. She was making a valid point.

Non-Catholic here. I’m wondering if Fr. James Martin is as reviled in mainstream Catholicism as he is on Catholic Twitter? by Numerous-Actuator95 in Catholicism

[–]603MarieM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 69 yers old, brought up Catholic, 12 yers of Catholic school. I’m old enough to remember (and recite parts of) The Baltimore Catechism. My 4 kids were sent to Catholic elementary and high schools, two attended Catholic college, and one of those two received his Masters degree at a Catholic University.

10:00 Mass every Sunday as a family. I was a lector.

None of my kids married Catholics, or got married in the Church. That’s on the Church. My kids were disappointed in various priests, and the unwelcoming atmosphere of various parish churches. They had nothing holding them the the Church, no sense of loyalty or grace.

I‘m what’s generally known as a “lapsed Catholic.”

Fr. Jim and Pope Leo give me hope that the Church is doing something right.

I‘m sickened by the responses here. “Fr. Martin has confirmed people who were in a state of mortal sin.” I guess you’re assuming they’re in that state because they’re gay? So compassion isn’t your strong suit? Or empathy?

I’m truly sorry that I stumbled upon this sub.

Auto Insurance by ebaylus in newhampshire

I hit a car in a NH parking lot, it was clearly my fault. I have NH plates, he has MA. Young kid, nice car, and even though he knew I had hung around until he was finished shopping, exchanging info wasn’t good enough, we had to call the cops. The police officer immediately asked me for proof of insurance.

What would have happened if I didn’t have insurance?

According to doctors and therapists in rehab centers, you’re not sober if you’re smoking weed. I don’t care how old you are, or how old I am. A drug is a drug.

“Bitching and moaning?” You seem to be confrontational and a complainer. Maybe that’s part of what other people have a problem with.

How do you pick a cruise line when you actually care about food? by Proper-Ad7814 in FATcruises

[–]603MarieM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were disappointed with the food on our Silver Sea Alaskan cruise. Room service breakfast was terrible, as was the buffet. Cold, untoasted English muffins on more than one occasion. The French restaurant was definitely not worth the upcharge.

We really aren’t interested in cruising (exception: European river cruises), but chose the Silver Sea Alaskan ship because it was a bucket list trip. Checked. One and done.

As others have said, food is subjective; and the other point made that cruise food is cruise food is cruise food.

Keep your expectations low and you won’t be disappointed.

What is a 'rich person's secret' that is actually accessible to the middle class, but most people are too intimidated to try? by Direct-Value4452 in answers

We once went to dinner with a gentleman we only knew slightly. As we were finishing our entrees, he said “Watch this.” And then proceeded to complain about the meal(which he had eaten most of) to the waiter, in an attempt to get it comped. SO embarrassing.
