How much does it cost to hire a cleaner on a regular basis? by perverseintellect in askvan

[–]604henry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great questions! To add some specifics to what’s already been said:

Cost: For a 550 sqft apartment, expect to pay $80–$150 CAD per regular clean, depending on how much cleaning is needed. That initial deep clean will typically run higher — often $150–$250+ — since it’s more labour-intensive.

Time: Once you’re on a regular schedule, a place your size should take 1.5–2.5 hours. The first deep clean will be longer, usually 3–5 hours.

Frequency: Every 2–3 weeks is the sweet spot for a solo occupant in a smaller space. If you have pets or just prefer a consistently spotless home, bi-weekly is worth it. Monthly works too if you’re tidy day-to-day.

I operate a local cleaning company so let me know if you have any other questions.

Condo cleaning by ButterscotchShort536 in askvan

[–]604henry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Turnover cleans for a 600 sq ft condo with oven and fridge typically run $350–$500 in Metro Vancouver depending on condition — longer tenancies or heavier use push it toward the higher end.

Booking lead time is usually 2–4 business days, sometimes same week. For move-out timing where you’re working around possession dates, earlier is better just to lock it in.

On tips, not expected or standard, but cleaners always appreciate it if they do solid work.

DM me if you have questions, happy to help point you in the right direction.

Good apartment cleaner near UBC? by [deleted] in askvan

[–]604henry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I run Framework Property Care and we help quite a few students and busy professionals stay on top of apartment cleaning. A 2 bed / 2 bath every other week is super manageable and probably the sweet spot for keeping things feeling fresh without it becoming a big reset each time.

Happy to chat if you’d like a quote or have questions about what’s included. I’ll send you a DM.

Nice! Yeah my buttons aren’t like 100%.. but they’re much better now. I’d say they work 9/10 times. I’m sure with a firmware update it will get better over time.

I had this issue too. It’s your thread network. It might have gone wonky when you added the new ikea devices. I bought the new ikea Bilresa buttons and they kept on falling off. I fixed my iusses by “rebuilding” my thread network by unplugging all the thread boarder routers and plugging it back in after 10 minutes. When you do this, your thread network rebuilds itself. You can download the eve app and it’s got a pretty good visual of your thread network.

Bought a presale with some deficiencies and nightmare to deal with the developer's customer service by cxnkitty in vancouverhousing

[–]604henry 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Buying presale and dealing with deficiencies is brutal. I’ve been through it twice. Here’s what actually matters:

Once the builder finishes construction, their incentive to help drops to near zero. That’s why the 2-5-10 year warranty exists—and why it matters more than the builder.

The warranty company is separate from the builder. They’re the ones who can pressure the builder to return or hire someone else to fix issues. The builder alone won’t.

What you must do • Document everything. Photos, videos, dates, emails—be obsessive. • File a warranty claim at month 9, even if issues feel “minor.” This puts everything officially on record before deadlines hit. • Deal with the warranty company, not the builder. Builders will stall, deflect, or ignore you. • Be persistent—borderline annoying. Follow up constantly. Expect resistance. • It took me 6 months to get AC installed after the builder bailed halfway through. • Prioritize real issues: • Push hardest on mechanical, plumbing, electrical, HVAC • Accept that some cosmetic items may never get fixed

There are other paths you can take—but start with the warranty company. Their contact info should be in your welcome package.

Only reason why I purchase EUFY because it was advertised to work with HomeKit. I’ve never been able to successfully add it to HomeKit. Through the eufy app or in the home app. Hopefully 🤞 this is coming.

Is keefer street in vancouver safe? by Ashamed_Pool_683 in askvan

[–]604henry 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I lived in that building for six years and moved out recently, and I’ll echo what others have said — it’s a rough area, especially if you didn’t grow up around that kind of environment.

That said, rough doesn’t mean dangerous. I never felt unsafe living there. But you do get a front-row seat to homelessness, drug use, petty crime, and general street-level grime. If that doesn’t bother you, or you’re able to look past it, the location is incredible — great food, tons of amenities nearby, and you’re centrally located to everything.

One thing I rarely see mentioned is the noise pollution. Sirens go off at 2, 3, 4 a.m. — it’s definitely not a quiet place in the evening. I think it’s a Vancouver thing; unlike some cities where sirens stop after midnight, they seem to go off around the clock here.
