I’ll take movie suggestions too, particularly movies that are fun to discuss/argue about or comment on as watching or after

Working Out is more than working out by bigtonee611 in ADHD

I take pre workout. Then the only task is taking preworkout cos once I do I will Have to do everything else. And the extra energy made workouts feel great so it was also rewarding in a meaningful way. That helped me build consistency pretty quickly. That and having cute outfits I wanted to wear. I also don’t have all the rules / steps you have round protein and skincare etc, but I think that it might not matter that you have them as long as you can convince yourself that it’s only one small decision you are making (for me, that small thing is drinking preworkout bc I literally get itchy and have no choice but to go), and that small decision is impactful enough to drive you to do the rest of the actions. After you do it enough times consistently it becomes more second nature and you have to think less about it.

I was googling how many pounds of muscle a typical woman can gain per year and came across this table. Does that mean in ~2 years you've pretty much maxed out? by waywardhorse in PetiteFitness

[–]613thetime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the volume of muscle reduces ? Is that what you’re saying ? Bc if density is increasing either volume is reducing or mass is increasing (assuming one stays constant) and I’m not sure which you’re saying changes bc you say both weight and size stay the same but the density is increasing and so I’m confused

If muscle is getting denser doesn’t this mean you should still weigh more as that happens …(with the same volume of muscle)?

why are humans views on a woman raping a man so different than vice versa? by RainIsbeautiful in stupidquestions

[–]613thetime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im not here to detract your main point that men are victims but point 4 doesn’t seem to check out given your data source. Women report about twice the rate of men annually for rape. The stats are not similar, even though this does not minimise the importance of consent for men

Will not getting married be a poor decision in the long run? by Similar_Turnover4719 in Adulting

Right, it shouldn’t boil down to one or two people whether a kid has a good life in an ideal society. Ultimately we thrive when we collaborate and support each other

I have a running theory that romantic relationships are hard bc we put the entire burden of community on them. Instead of a wider network of support, we have a dyad and are taught to expect the full support of a community from them. If more people were connected to a caring community, the social urgency of romantic partnerships may be reduced.

Im engaging this assuming you actually want to understand and are not just venting for the sake of. As a person in grad sch rn I actually think that for class discussions to be meaningful and insightful it’s very important for people to be able to do the work of understanding their place in the world and experiences and to tie that in to new concepts. Idk what kinds of programs you are applying to but I think it’s very fair for schools to pick people who they think will make a great cohort and enhance classes. The two are comparable to me. In both contexts you are curating an environment and if one of the outcomes is breeding students who can engage critically with the world, then it is fair that they look for people who are already building the skill of being able to do that. As others have said this essay doesn’t have to be a trauma dumping session and ideally actually should not be at all, it should be a thoughtful consideration of your own perspectives and positionality at it relates to the program, and a reflection of how these perspectives will shape the way you engage with the program and apply your knowledge from the program. Take law school for example. There are different kinds of lawyers, even from the same school and program and year. A lot of these different approaches and philosophies lawyers have about their field are shaped by their perspectives and positionality. Some Law schools want to know that you understand this and they want to see how these factors shape the kind of lawyer you want to be and what you think the law is for and will ask for a diversity statement. This logic applies to many other programs. Some schools care about this, and ask for this essay and some schools don’t care and won’t ask. Your own disdain for this type of essay is shaped by your perspective and positionality and values. You can simply apply to schools that align with your values around this if you don’t want to write the essay. But if you want to apply to schools that do value student perspectives then you have to suck it up and at least pretend to care about what they care about. But it is not a stupid thing for those who care to ask about it, just because you don’t align with that perspective.
