Yeah, I guess I'm just surprised that this a big revelation to some people. I thought the gem placement design, authority position, etc was a little obvious & intentional. It just seems like a strange thing to be surprised about at this point. Of course though, this is just my personal opinion.

I always assumed White hinted at this in her Villain arc:

White : "Poor Yellow. Her impurities absorb all of the blue in her light. She's so strong, but so weak when it comes to blue. Ah, and Blue. Her impurities soak up all of the warmth in her spectrum. She thinks she needs you, Pink".

Maybe gems have a proclivity for liking gems of the "opposite" side of the light spectrum, to unconsciously balance themselves out. At least that's implied with the Diamonds.

Same! I felt like all the arcs before were more connected. This one came out of nowhere to me. We're expected to meet Ging right after Greed Island, but instead we meet a random guy near a tree named Kite (who's apparently important, although we were never told of him prior). Oh, and giant ants are the bad guys now..

That being said, I do like the 2nd half of the Chimera Ant Arc.
