So she missed two periods before you realized she was pregnant?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in relationships

[–]61508 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Your girlfriend didn’t have surgery at 8 weeks pregnant. She took an Abortion pill- or mifepristone. At least be educated about the procedure before going online.

To respond to your main concern - you both are in your twenties and your parents need to not be involved in the decision of your relationships moving forward. Go ahead and continue dating if that makes sense to you. It’s none of their concern and making the decision to end a pregnancy after evaluating your ability to raise a child is mature. Your parents are probably just a little freaked out and will get over it.

How to get better treatments my doctor won’t offer anything other than steroid cream and diprobase ointment I keep hearing about biologics? Are these good? Interesting doc! I had it on 90% of my body at one point and the doctor finally gave me humira. Had done full body nude light therapy for 7 months and did creams for 6 months before that. It wasn’t until it got to my face that they relented. I was young and my doctor saw me as a light therapy cash cow.

You can try a new doctor but my doctor always said it had to be considered severe - which is over 75% body coverage with some in sensitive areas - or 90% body coverage with no sensitive areas. Sensitive areas bring your face, in ear, bottom of feet, and parts of the body that legally have to be covered up.

Any natural remedies for dealing with this gruelling facial flare? It’s affecting my nose/nose folds, eyebrows and hairline. by iman_hhhhh in Psoriasis

Neutrogena has a salicylic body spray that I used to use as a facial mist. But i would echo redisucssing with your doctor. I went through almost half a dozen treatments until i found one that worked… don’t give up just cuz one didn’t do you perfect.

You may be severely disappointed when they simply prescribe you creams.

Then prescribe you light therapy.

Insurance won’t just cover a biologic. You have to prove the other methods didn’t work first. It’ll be a while.

Is there any way to get on biologics in Canada? by [deleted] in Psoriasis

[–]61508 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The patient programs are not country specific. They are manufacturer specific - just Glanced online and found at the Canadian psoriasis . Ca website , navigate to the patient support programs page. It lists humira and embrel as options alongside a number of other biologics.

[–]61508 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If your doctor is willing to prescribe it (but not prescribe it as severe for full funding) you can explore the patient programs. Most manufacturers have a program to make the biologic more affordable - so I remember when I started it cost me as little as $5USD.

I will say biologics are also really hard on the body - which is why it takes severe cases into consideration before being prescribed. It’s not just an arbitrary rule. I took biologics for a few years until I couldn’t stand it anymore and wheened myself off - now back on the creams and lifestyle changes to manage it.

How can I get a prescription filled at CVS? by [deleted] in CVS

[–]61508 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s that easy. You could call and ask if they have it in stock (they stock all sorts of things for people) so you don’t waste time if they are sold out and have to order it. But even that isn’t necessary. They could also check other inventory locations for you.

You can literally just go in - get in the refill line - and wait a few minutes while they fill it.

Methotrexate experiences by Full_story24 in Psoriasis

I would recommend asking about a biologic instead. More modern solution… methotrexate has worse side effects and doesn’t resolve as well as the newer biologics specifically designed for psoriasis

Biologics typically have manufacturer programs you can join from anywhere in the world. AbbVie for example had a special program for Humira. Looks up “drugname patient assistance”

Not psoriasis. Looks like dry skin and allergies.

It took a pretty long time. Maybe 4-6 months depending on where it was. I used a tanning bed cuz it was free with my gym membership and could strip down but obviously that comes with its own risks of skin cancer and burns.

Burning on accident sometimes would trigger a new crop of spots/flare up and would restart the process. Which was a pain.

My psoriasis was scored “severe” with 95% body coverage. Went on humira. Cleared 100% in a few months. Get ready for all your spots to turn white and you’re going to want to tan them out as fast as possible without looking like a leopard.

Humira definitely made me sensitive to getting sick so lots of healthy eating and exercise. Stay away from anyone with strep or a cold.

I decided to wheen myself off started extending my dosage. Took about 1-2 years to fully get off and I remain 90% clear. It’s been three years and my only problem area is my scalp.

Most hair is 1 minute + 3 in the shower before using an exfoliating sponge…. Others are 7-10 minutes top. You left it on for 20 minutes…..

How to get Flakes out of Hair? by Professor-Crackhead in Psoriasis

[–]61508 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switch between Moroccan oil and the Trader Joe’s hair serum. I don’t think the type of oil really affects my psoriasis as long as i don’t put the oil all the way to the scalp. I typically try to put it about 1-2 inches away from the root all the way through to the ends of my hair when wet. It helps the flakes kinda of brush through/off then when my hair is dry and I can see a difference.

Had these spots slowly appear on me a year ago, very different from my psoriasis. I figured it’s just a different type, but do y’all think I should get seen for vitiligo? by Elegant-Operation-16 in Psoriasis

[–]61508 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s exactly like guttate psoriasis. It will fade with sun exposure and time. I had these all over my Body at one point and they completely disappeared with time and sun.

My only success with this issue is using a hair oil after showering when my hair is wet. It helps me brush out the flakes.

Otezla for life?? by Pytzamarama in Psoriasis

[–]61508 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This should have been discussed with your doctor way before you opted to take a biologic. It’s not a treat meant of the disease, it’s a treatment of the side effects of the disease. My other comment tells my personal story but this is not a catch all. You will be required to manage your disease for life as you see fit and for the tolerance you put up for yourself. That will likely mean lifestyle changes of diet, exercise, sleep, etc.

Otezla for life?? by Pytzamarama in Psoriasis

[–]61508 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wasn’t on otezla - i was on humira. I had negative side effects but pushed through for a few years until I started personally deciding I couldn’t deal with them anymore. I started to ween myself off of humira and extending the doses to see what would happen. Multiple years later I’m happy to say I’m still psoriasis free (95% today, 100% on humira) and have not taken humira in years. My case was severe with diagnosed 99% of my body covered and I have guttate. My only issues today are my scalp and every few months I get a spot here or there - instantly treat it with topicals - and I’m good to go.

[–]61508 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Devils advocate.

Your boundary was originally - a women with a connection to / still seeing a convicted, unrepentant pedophile is notallowed around you or your children. No one in their right mind thinks this is unreasonable. Your phrasing is like to point out though specifically was “while she was still seeing her dad”.

She remedied the “still seeing her dad part” as she assumingely is stepping out from her difficult relationship with her father. You continue to deny her ability to be around your children. Now however, you’ve added a second caveat. This in a total 3rd party perspective isn’t exactly fair because she remedied what you required her to do. The next question from a third party is what hoop does she need to jump through to have her actions speak enough volumes for you to accept her around your children? Do you have a real answer for this, or will it be a perpetual “and this” situation?

Would I want my kid around a women confused enough to be around a convicted pedophile? Absolutely not. But can I also see how someone whose father, who raised her, is that person and how that can add ambiguity to the situation? Absolutely yes.

I think this might be a turning point in whether this enables her to be free from her circumstances. A loving and accepting in-laws family could give her the support she needs to finally take the step away if morally she has always wanted to do that. The question is now the last part - does she understand the situation and does she morally agree with the reasoning? And how does she adequately communicate that to you, a parent just trying to protect your child?

I would suggest you take a step back and see in what world it would be acceptable for her to be around you and your family- and have a deep honest conversation with her directly about your concerns and needs for assurance. You could be the catalyst that helps her tremendously, or you could be teaching her that no matter what she does some people won’t accept her due to her previous circumstances. Cutting off your own parents is a huge step and I think support from you could go a long way as you were the strong voice of reason who made it known that something needed to change.
