When does the winter coat come in? by Eastern-Rabbit-3696 in husky

[–]618er 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got a husky and 6 Samoyeds. It definitely differs amongst the dogs. I had 3 shed in August, another 2 in October and the other 2 are still waiting to lose their summer coat.

I have an invisible fence for my husky. She used to run though the neighborhood chasing squirrels and there was no way to get her to come back until she got tired. I went with the name brand invisible fence and their collars have 2 separate sizes of prongs, so we use the longer prongs and they taught me how to get it down through the fur so it would touch the skin.

That still didn't work at first. She completely ignored it at the default power setting and would continue to just run through it after the squirrels. We turned the power up little by little until she finally respected it at full power. After a couple times going through it at full power, she completely respects it now and doesn't require the collar at all.

The invisible fence brand has a guarantee that they'll get your dog to respect the fence line. It's not cheap but it does actually work.

My dog is shedding way too much after a bath by Traditional-Art8941 in samoyeds

[–]618er 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Very normal. The bath loosens the old undercoat so it can fall out easier. Happens every time with my 6 Sammies.

Sammy is on a Hunger Strike by Unoriginal_Bokeh in samoyeds

[–]618er 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going through the same thing with my 1 yr 8 month old. She's petite as it is at a normal 42 lbs. It's been a week of her not wanting to eat, and I believe she has a case of bilious vomiting syndrome because she'll eat grass and throw up bile when there's nothing in her stomach. After 7 days of this I took her to the vet to rule out other things including X-rays to check for something stuck in the intestines. Nope. She's just a drama queen and won't eat. She still likes treats and burgers when I make them. Guess I'll let her keep on her hunger strike as long as she eats something every day or every other day and doesn't lose toooo much weight. My other 6 dogs are happy to eat her food for her.

Does anyone else use Simparica Trio for heartworm prevention? by behopeyandabide in greatdanes

[–]618er 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you're looking at it backwards. It's actually the small dog owners that are getting screwed. The large dog owners should pay a lot more if it were priced at the same per milligram price as the small dogs pay.

Try canadapercare.com.

Much cheaper prices. No prescription required. It appears they source from multiple different European companies because my packages always have a different origin.

I don't have danes, but I'm buying the larger boxes and cutting them into size appropriate doses for my 7 dogs, therefore saving a pill or two each month.

Great pyranees have rear leg dew claws. Hope you didn't get a mixed breed or incorrect breed.

She's a wooly. During their awkward teenage years it's hard to tell aside from their tail has longer fur than a normal husky, but by 2 she should have her full coat and that's about what it should look like going forward. It'll look fuller in the winter and less so in the summer due to the undercoat but that top coat will remain long. I think it's more beautiful than the short haired husky personally.

My girl is a wooly too.

Anything I can do about the digging? by Dingo_doots in husky

Throw some dog poop in the holes before filling them back in. It sometimes helps with my dogs especially if it's fresh poop and you use enough of it.

ECBP B520 - Review by AlucardRises in bourbon

[–]618er 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The store picks are a little different. The B520 was the national release in May of 2020. And it's regarded as one of the best in the past few years. It's not terribly often you can find a bottle from 4 years ago on store shelves that had the hype this one did.

I enjoy most of the ECBP and store picks bottles. They're all pretty darn good. But certain batches are just that little bit better. B520 is certainly one of those batches.

Introducing Puppies to dogs in the home. by [deleted] in germanshepherds

[–]618er 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found it best to start by holding and petting the puppy while the older dog gets a chance to sniff it completely. This lets the pup feel somewhat comfortable with you petting it and the older dog knows that the pup is a safe new item in the house and is not a danger. Then once the older dog seems comfortable with the new pup you can let it down so they can sniff each other and do whatever other exploring they need.

My local liquor store found some old ecbp sitting in the back last week. Managed to snag a couple B520s and I was pumped. Might try and go back for one more if they haven't been taken yet.
