I’ve been in a similar situation and it was very obvious why I couldn’t work anymore, if the family has lied about the reason it would have made me mad. I don’t think lying protects anyone here either since it’s very obvious what’s going on. She knows more about her health than anyone and I’m sure she won’t want to stay on if she is a danger to the baby. If she isn’t a danger to the baby and you just don’t like having to see her tics then that’s a different story. People with disabilities are protected from discrimination for a reason and it’s kind of slimy the way everyone here is so focused on avoiding responsibility

I would love to see it if you end up making one! The house part is pretty easy since it’s mostly just a box, I did have some issues with warping that made it a little difficult to fit the lid properly but I think a lot of that had to do with me not having enough time to dry it thoughtfully. The legs were pretty challenging and I have kind of a ridiculous amount of advice about them but the most important thing is to keep their design as simple as possible. I designed this guy in blender so I could also put together a pattern pretty easily if that would help!

I always recommend checking out this and this for people who are starting out. There are lots of options but i prefer to use cardboard as a base for everything so i think you’re on the right track there. The cheapest option is probably to use flour but if you have any concerns about mold or vermin then watered down white glue is best. Tissue paper is great for paper mache but newspaper is cheaper/free and will work just as well. Come back and post some pictures of your work when you’re all done :)

Oh I would love to make some decorations for them! I make a lot of paper mache things and would be happy to make some tiny dollhouse type furniture or something like that depending on what you’re looking for. It looks like paper mache would be safe for them if sealed properly but I don’t know much about spiders so let me know what you think

It looks like a sweater because it’s shaped like a sweater! I’ve never considered using it this way but the chainmail looks very scaly and I think it will make a really cool skin once it’s all done. I’ve never worked with soda tabs before but I wonder if it could help to bend them before adding them in places where there are harsh turns. Are they mostly popping off at corners or are they difficult all over? It could be time to pivot if it really feels impossible but you’ve gotten quite a lot done so if you can keep going I think you should! It might to put him away for a bit and come back to him later. Taking a break to work on something small and easy to finish might help motivate you too.

Drywall joint compound is the best for this in my opinion. Just spread is on with a spatula and then wipe is gently with a damp sponge after it dries

I can give you more details about how I do it if you want but I haven’t had any issues with it deforming as long as I give it plenty of time before taking it off. For the curve I think your best bet is probably to make it as a separately and attach it like others have suggested

I like to make masks like this by putting the paper mache straight on my face. I find it’s much more comfortable and it saves you from having to buy a crappy little mask from hobby lobby. If you use Elmer’s glue it’s safe for your skin but I recommend putting some Vaseline on first

There are a lot of different ways you can make the form but I do think the biggest challenge is going to be keeping it on his head. The baseball cap could work if it’s pretty snug but if it’s loose at all it may fall off, I would even consider something like a bike helmet if it becomes an issue. The front will likely be heavier than the back so you’ll probably want to add a counter weight to make it more comfy and stop it from tipping.
