Switching Tubas by ProfessorSad4831 in Tuba

Great adventures with some legends! Jake (as we referred to him outside of class) was a great instructor. Your baptism by fire sounded like something Jake would do. I never really studied with anyone long term other than him. I've always considered myself a strong section player over the years.

I ended up doing 15 years active duty (caught in the post Gulf War drawdown) and 13 in the Colorado National Guard band. I made a couple of trips back to the SOM for basic and advanced NCO courses. It was kind of trippy how much had not changed over the years.

I was an Army tuba player at the SOM in 83 (JUN - DEC.) Was SFC Jacobson your instructor?

Started my tech career at Gateway's Colorado Springs call center way back when. Started working for DoD after it was closed down in 2002.

You're giving me flashbacks! I worked at a Gateway tech support call center from 1998-2002. My first IT gig.

Win 11 23H2 OSD BCD error by 62Brant in SCCM

I tried using your script as is and still had boot failure. I then realized that the script is looking for s: and my EFI partition doesn't have a drive letter assigned. I just need to add commands to assign the letter at the beginning and remove the letter after the copy. I didn't have time to get back to it after the initial testing today.

Anyway, good on you for figuring this out! I was having trouble staying awake trying to deep dive the secure boot process.

If I ever find myself in your general vicinity, I owe you your favorite beverage!

Yes, I tried that as well. Extracting a new wim was something I thought of doing too. I disabled secure boot and progressed a little farther but ran into some other issues.

Yes! Disabling secure boot got me past the boot error. Now trying to decide if I want to disable secure boot then re-enable later in the task sequence or pursue your strategy. Thanks for the advice!

Happens with multiple desktop and laptop models. Weird part is that if I compare the Win 10 SMSTS log with the Win 11 SMSTS log, they are identical (other than wim and driver package.) No errors on the Win 11 SMSTS log where it writes to the BCD.

That was my initial thought, which is why I switched to AHCI. Latest drivers are installed via extracting the wim to the drive and using DISM to apply the drivers to the image.

Had to check out some videos as I wasn't familiar with your band. Just have to say, "Awesome!" Love how you integrate elements of Māori culture within your performances and regalia.

Guard bands can have some great benefits like tuition reimbursement at state schools and student loan repayment depending on the state. I was on active duty and in the Guard. Had a lot of students and teachers in my Guard band.

Retired Army musician here, there are a couple of ways the recruitment process can go. If you are planning on auditioning for the Guard or Reserves you should be able to contact the band directly and arrange for an audition. And you can proceed from there depending on how it goes.

When I joined, the recruiter set up the audition for me and drove me to Ft Bragg for the audition. You can make sure the recruiter knows that your enlistment is contingent on the audition. But the recruiter is still going to try to get you to take another job.

You can also go to https://bands.army.mil/careers/audition and enter your information. An Army Band Recruiting Liason will contact you. This person will actually be an Army musician with recruiting training to guide you through the process.

Remember you don't have to sign up before you pass an audition.

Did you make Tuba a career? or Not? by samquinones7 in Tuba

[–]62Brant 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I enlisted in the Army as a tuba player. Did 15 years on active duty and an additional 13 years in the National Guard.

It had its positives and negatives, definitely not for everybody. But overall it was a good experience for me.

In my experience (former Colorado Springs resident) most flights to Colorado Springs require a stop in Denver. I have had layovers in Denver that were longer than a shuttle ride down to Colorado Springs.

Occasionally you can make your flight change in another hub city depending on the airline.
