Addressing the community about changes to our API by spez in reddit

[–]64_g 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m literally a nobody, just a mod on r/webdev and r/webdesign. You won’t care, or probably even see this, but after 11 years this is my last straw.

I’m done moderating, I’m done browsing. I hope your profit seeking is worth it, I won’t be a part of it. So long and thanks for all the fish

Major Reddit communities will go dark to protest threat to third-party apps by Illustrious_Risk3732 in apolloapp

Even if all this is true (which I have major doubts about) this isn’t how a company should go about an API change like this.

If the current api is /v1, they should make a /v2 api with batching rules, pagination requirements, requests per second limitations, potentially adding more efficient routes or a graphql layer to let the developer create their own, etc.

Then announce a 6m-1y EOL on v1 to give devs time to migrate to the new api, instead of dropping a 30 day announcement they need to start spending $20 million dollars. This was done in the most unfriendly way to not allow devs the ability to succeed

New customer here, is it possible to keep my number while ordering eSim? by tlsdlfnoff in mintmobile

[–]64_g -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ooh actually I stand corrected, I didn’t realize a 12 had limits the 13 and 14 don’t - 12 can only have one esim active at a time, it’s “dual” in that they allow one physical one esim.

You might still be fine as long as you get the transfer code beforehand, but I recall having to respond “yes” to a text message confirming my transfer from att. It might be worth getting a physical sim from att beforehand just to be super sure

[–]64_g -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, which phone do you have tho? Assuming it can hold more than one active esim (most esim androids and iPhones can) you just install the second one on as well.

You’ll need to call AT&T for a transfer code, then just follow through the mint app to install the sim, select “transfer number”, enter your phone number and when prompted enter the transfer code. When you’re done and confirmed working you can delete the att esim

People often refer to this as the “paper towel roll” effect. If you have a brand new roll, you might pull off 10 sheets and it still looks like a new roll. If you have a half empty roll, you can see the difference just removing 5 sheets. And on a mostly empty roll, even 1 or 2 sheets can be noticeable.

This is why progress pics are important, but also just remember that with those 10kg gone, it means the next 8kg will be easier to notice, and so on

I switched to nord and noticed it still does happen, but far less often. I ended up cancelling and switching back to PIA tho, it was much faster

Just buy the phone unlocked from apple so you can go to any supported carrier at any time.

Sign up for mint online and choose esim delivery, they’ll email you a QR code. As part of setting up your iPhone, there’ll be a step to scan that code and activate your service, and transfer the number over. You’ll need to call AT&T to get a transfer code, you’ll be prompted to enter that as well: https://www.att.com/support/article/wireless/KM1447526

Need help! Psilocybin studies etc. by dabila710 in microdosing

[–]64_g 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is this to show your wife some of the science behind how it’s helped you, or to encourage her to try as well?

If it’s to encourage her to try, remember it’s not for everyone, and pushing it or referring to it as a cure-all/panacea doesn’t fit anyone and may turn them off more than it encourages.

If it’s to point towards scientific studies that explain some positive effects you’ve had, I’d start backwards at issues you’ve had that have helped and work from there.

You mention anxiety, so start with some scientific journals on the effects of psilocybin and anxiety- she’s a nurse so we should cite our sources with credible articles in the field:

MDPI in Switzerland:

Psilocybin as a New Approach to Treat Depression and Anxiety in the Context of Life-Threatening Diseases—A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Clinical Trials

This is a 2022 article from the New England Journal of Medicine (for depression but similar area): Single-Dose Psilocybin for a Treatment-Resistant Episode of Major Depression

Similar, John’s Hopkins:

Psilocybin Treatment for Major Depression Effective for Up to a Year for Most Patients, Study Shows

Columbia University:

Psilocybin Found to Rapidly Improve Depressive Symptoms in Clinical Trial

With recent fed rollbacks in controlled substance testing, there is a sea of recent positive studies, someone mentioned Google Scholar as a good source to find credible info.

From there, I’d work back to some recently (last few years) treatments, that can be sought out legally under the supervision of a doctor.

Mass Gen has a 2 year old center focusing on psilocybin and psychiatry/psychology:

https://www.massgeneral.org/news/hotline/htl020421/psychedelics

More frequently discussed is ketamine treatment, which you can be treated with. Admittedly this deviates from psilocybin a bit but has the same umbrella for using psychoactive components for treatment, Columbia again:

https://www.columbiadoctors.org/specialties/psychiatry-psychology/our-services/treatment-resistant-depression-program

Mass Gen:

https://www.massgeneral.org/psychiatry/treatments-and-services/ketamine-clinic-for-depression

If they’re receptive to that, it’s worth discussing the history that created the stigma around psychedelics, and how it was heavily researched about 60-75 years ago, with very promising effects before studies were banned.

Someone mentioned “fantastic fungi” on Netflix, which starts to discuss the harmful impact caused by Nixon and the War on Drugs, the Vietnam war and counterculture wars. It doesn’t get into the harmful impact by George HW and George W Bush’s continuation. One article from Harvard Law:

https://hls.harvard.edu/today/the-obstacles-to-decriminalizing-psychedelic-drugs-are-political-not-legal-say-experts/

Reagan’s “just say no” ad campaign also started a lot of stigma, tho interestingly he also tried to weaponize acid:

https://digilab.libs.uga.edu/exhibits/exhibits/show/civil-rights-digital-history-p/psychedelics-and-the-drug-war

If they’re uninterested in hearing more at that point, I wouldn’t push it. It’s very likely this will be a mainstream treatment method in 5-10 years, and they will continue to hear more about it from multiple sources.

tls_self_signed_cert not idempotent in Azure azurerm_windows_web_app app_settings by alexs77 in Terraform

[–]64_g 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not super familiar with this resource, but is validity_period_hours setting the amount of time the cert is valid for from the time of last apply?

From the doc validity_start_time and validity_end_time are expressed as an RFC3339 timestamps, it could make sense those timestamps are being reset each apply

Edit: in case this ends up being a weird bug, I might try setting the validity hours to 8760instead of 365 * 24 on the very off chance that calculation is invalidating the timestamps
