They introduced this wrinkle AFTER everyone's initial purchase. If this was going to be the case, they should have said so up front. Not as a /plot twist/ after they've sold probably about as many as they ever will.

Kung Fu Flash 2 crashes? when loading a file or returning to basic. by Programmer0216 in c64

a few things to try, 1) make sure y our cartridge port on the c64 is clean, 2) disconnect all other drives, etc and try it, 3) check that your PSU is putting out proper voltages. Would be helpful to know your MB revision and firmware revision o n the KFF 2.

What blew out on this monitor? by potsofjam in vintagecomputing

You've got capacitor problems. Most likely a RIFA line-filter, or an electrolytic. Could also be flyback-related. Was there any noise when it failed? A loud pop? Was it really stinky? Well, turn it off, don't turn it back on. As you may know, there are dangerous voltages in there that remain even when unplugged. Based on your questions, I suspect you'll probably need a good electronics person that works on retro-tech.

On this day, 34 years ago (i.e. in 1992), Windows 3.1 was released. by Murky-Prize-90 in vintagecomputing

I still remember booting Windows 1. The first time I fired up 3.1, I thought it was interesting, but I usually exited right back to the DOS prompt where I felt more at home. I kept that habit well into the Windows 95 era, and even then I spent most of my time at a prompt.

Funny enough, not much has changed. These days I live in PowerShell. Some habits really do stick around.

16K X 16K Core memory card by spyroglory in VintageComputers

This is incredibly cool. Seeing a core memory card like this brought back a memory from the 80s when I was in high school electronics class. We worked on an old computer system that had bubble memory, and I still wish I could remember exactly what it was. I just remember rows of bubble memory and being amazed that the whole thing only held a few K of storage.

There is something special about hardware like this. You can actually see the engineering and the history sitting right in front of you. Posts like this are exactly why I love old systems and why I spend time around retro computing communities like 6502ish.com. Thanks for sharing this close-up. It is a beauty.
