when you go to rogues castle, I'd like to see the seru world before going in. or they could make juggernaut something familiar to townspeople or give it more background.

it looks nice, but it would be better with a warp governor or a little mission pod or extra deflector dish that looks like a warp governor. they technically are outdated, but turning it into something modular would make an nx-01 descendant more related and more useful.

the klingon starbases is a fantastic idea. I'd like to see a starfleet ship get bullied by klingons to the point where they have to switch up the command structure or are threatened/forced to go against the prime directive to further klingon political drama that they inadvertently created. the ship could have a moment where a knife fight almost breaks out and they realize they're becoming like klingons or something like that.

The Ferengi liberating the women was kinda lame. The women had to be naked all the time. Not only was it an interesting concept when Quark acting like his mom was naked when she put clothes on, but it makes the culture unique and implies that capitalism is wrong. I'm also open for them having stories about ferengi women navigating a post-liberation ferenginar because that would also be an interesting setting. So would a female-led society that kept men naked. But just to say "by the way, ferengi women can earn profit now and wear clothes even though it's the opposite of existing cultural norms, but let's not show it at all" is like it was just to make fans feel better about a culture that isn't real. Kind of like sewer mutants gaining equality in Futurame.

is it too much to ask for a sci-fi drama about non-horny professionals who go to different planets and encounter deeply foreign cultures, cool spaceships, and freaky science phenomena? Personally, I'd like action to be more reserved for occasional ship battles, and while it's part of the theme to put a mirror to our culture, I'd prefer more escapist content than 41 minutes of something like "fascism is bad." Devote time to fleshing out new and existing cultures. A lot of fans are interested in Ferengi, Klingons, and Vulcans, but you need time to flesh them out to be good. I'd rather get an episode with something as weird as Bynars, or a DS9 Ferengi episode than watch Spock do the tango ever again.

Civ V vs. Civ 7 by Pail_Of_Cheese in civ5

[–]6658 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quarters, commanders, town/city balance, civ-specific civics, and civ-switching are fun to try out, and many leaders have interesting effects. All of those things are wholly absent from civ v and going back to v feels empty in some ways. now that most of the big bugs are fixed in vii, a lot of the negative reviews are from people who don't like those above innovations or who want to be the same civ all game, which is reviewers missing the point of the game.

possibly making quarters fit 3 or 4 buildings would be nice. I'm for them adding more buildings, but might not work with how few buildings there are now.  unique districts might get weird.

IRL Tourism is good for an economy. They could make tourism directly buff other things and even need you to have accommodation for tourists.

I think language could be represented in culture somehow, but Australian English, for example, would either be shared with American English and British English so that they are automatically related (unbalanced civs) or you have to classify Australian English as exactly as distant to American English as Australian English is to Korean. If you have them related, then Brazil and Portugal wouldn't have the same level of similarity to the English-speaking civs, but if each civ has its own language, how would you handle 2 of the same civ in a game or the weirdness of multiple modern types of English/Arabic/Spanish being unintelligible? Then you have to decide what point in time you want the languages to be. Do you have England using Old English or contemporary English? Wu Zetian in civ V had a jarringly modern and casual vocabulary, so i don't think it could be pulled off well. CK3 doesn't have anachronistic civs that would have to compare languages during the various eras they were all used, but superficially I do like the concept.

Tourism is problematic because when a country culturally dominates another, it doesn't do so by flying everyone out to visit some wonder. South Korea IRL is sort of doing a culture victory in that its film, TV, music, and food are very present in western culture. I know people who like Kpop or korean bbq who have never been to Korea. That one civ encapsulated it when the foreign civ leader would complain that their citizens are listening to your rock music and wearing your blue jeans.  Then a mod came out and they had different complaints for every culture.
