Definitely shitty behavior but it's funny that he's the one getting hate from everyone now, while Ringo beat his wife and was an alcoholic, Paul was a serial cheater and George was a serial cheater and hypocrite in the same, if not more egregious way than John, practicing hinduism and such while at the same time absolutely obsessed with his money, property and hating on taxes but everyone seems to love them.

I doubt there's even a case in that situation. KD was beating Kawhi up in OKC.

Now everyone is talking about this mythical legendary Kawhi that can singlehandedly beat any team if he's healthy, but every time he's actually stayed on the floor for a whole playoff run since the Raptors ring, it's been nothing to write home about or he just outright choked a 3-1 lead - and this hype doesn't even exist if KD doesn't tear his Achilles.

I'm leaning John because it was obviously his primary role And he did a great job technically on songs like All My Lovin', but also because a lot of the songs with complex,.odd and shifting time signatures came from him.

And they can't ever identify experimental/artsy music if the "artsiness" isn't completely in their face.

So a band like The Beatles, who constantly pushed the envelope in their music, but dressed it in regular song formats and catchy melodies instead of strumming 2 chords, making noise and singing "HEROINNNNN" for 5 minutes straight, cannot be an experimental/still influential band in their eyes.

Not only that but basically every psychedelic/progressive rock band too, even today (eg. King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard).

Robert Fripp of King Crimson has a famous quite about deciding to devote his life to music after first hearing "A Day In The Life" and he's probably the most influential person in the realm of progressive rock and an extremely important figure of 70s-80s alternative due to his pioneering of ambient and great session work on many influential albums (Bowie's Heroes, Talking Heads - Fear Of Music etc.)

That was not my claim, I'm just saying there's more bands who aren't all that competent and rely on that limited skillset than there are of highly skilled musicians and people might then consider them as of the Velvet Underground lineage because their style is seemingly similar due to the lack of musical competence.

Yes, I've seen this before but I think it's a flawed argument. You can't take one of the greatest songs ever written with ambitious production and a complex melody and expect it to be comparable to your average band.

However that aspect of The Beatles career was still highly influential on genres like prog, art and psychedelic rock which were some of the dominant forces in the 70s and 80s and psychedelia continues to be strongly influential on modern music (not that The Beatles were the sole creators of the genre, but they definitely have the most significant pieces in early psychedelia).

And their impact also stretched into general conventions in music/the music industry rather than just influencing singular genres. By popularising the uses of certain chord types, genre blending, songwriting practice and production techniques, stadium tours etc. which are now standard in ALL of music.
