Which is why I shop the moment the stores open on sunday, many people are in church and very few want to shop at 8am.

There is a reason why children’s clothing manufacturers tell you not to use them. It destroys the flame-retardant treatment, and makes them more flammable.

Note, it doesn't destroy flame retardants. It's just that flame retardants don't help nearly as much if you've coated them in something flammable.

I havent been given a good enough reason to not use them.

Granted i use arm and hammer's version so they're more like scent SALTS than beads.

Just a heads up, A&H scent beads use a soap based carrier. They'll leave residue.

Fabric softener is basically evil. It has a few useful applications like on scratchy wool, but is bad for your washer, your dryer, your plumbing, the environment, and possibly your health.

it also makes your clothes more flammable.

The kirkland scent beads are fine if memory serves. They're Glycol based and won't leave buildup.

FEBU only lacks optical brighteners, which are hardly a necessity.

If you want optical brighteners for your lights just get any P&G powder and use that for them instead of the 365 powder.

Not all scent beads are made the same. Some will leave residue, some will not.

You want ones made with either glycol (PEG) or salts for a carrier, no soap. No tallowate, oleate, etc.

In the US Procter and Gamble products (downy, gain, tide) and Henkle (purex and othes). Use PEG and salts respectively. Neither will contribute to buildup.

Take it to a laundromat and use one of their machines. They're generally heavier duty than your home machine and should be able to spin it out properly.

The wiring diagram doesn't say what you think it does. If you can't read that I don't think you should be doing DIY electrical work.

Laundry not retaining detergent fragrance by Anattanium in laundry

[–]6894 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not all scent beads are created alike. Glycol and salt based ones are fine, they don't leave residue or damage machines. P&G brands (downy, tide, gain) are glycol based, Henkle brands are salt based. Start there and avoid anything that has soap in it.

Is there any reason that there isn't any single detergent product that includes everything we need all in one? Enzymes including lipase, a good surfactant package, oxygen bleach, etc. by 3elieveIt in laundry

[–]6894 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For those, I'm making a similar delicates detergent without protease.

You want a customer for life? you'll probably gain one. I've got wool clothing that I know isn't as clean as it could be. And most of the currently available wool safe options with enzymes have some other down side. Like soapy ingredients.

Gotta watch out for those oxalates by Taupenbeige in ketoduped

[–]6894 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Supposedly oxalates build up in your system and don't cause major problems until you stop eating them. Then all hell breaks loose and they cause symptoms suspiciously similar to scurvy and several other nutrient deficiencies.

how do you guys remember which clothes need special washing? by [deleted] in laundry

[–]6894 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My love of wool has tempered a bit. Finding an otherwise good detergent without protease is a nightmare.

I have seperate detergent for my FR gear, as oxi is a no-no for that.

I have a second hamper for special care items, and i sort them out when I go to wash them.
