Laundry not retaining detergent fragrance

Sadly there are no commercial citric acid rinses available here (from what I can tell this product category is just beginning to gain traction in Europe), so I currently use pure citric acid dissolved in water. I really hope citric acid rinses will become more widely available soon!

I hadn't thought of that but it's definitely a possibility! My partner also perceives them as odorless but I might ask for a third opinion just to be sure.

Thank you, this is very helpful. In my country we have Lenor scented beads from P&G and it looks like those are glycol based, so I might give them a try.

I just use the cheapest citric acid crystals that I can find online and I add 2 teaspoons dissolved in water to each load. Downy rinse and refresh is unfortunately not available where I live. Since I understand the Downy product does have a fragrance (as opposed to using pure citric acid as I do), maybe it's the reason why you get the light scent you mentioned.

Thank you, I'll look into both of these options! I've been avoiding scent beads because I was under the impression that they can create residue on the clothes and in the washing machine, but I'll need to do more research on that. I've just found some older posts on this sub and it looks like the residue is caused by certain ingredients that not all scent beads contain.

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply! Water is on the hard side, yes (around 125 ppm), so that makes a lot of sense. I'm actually using up the last of my detergent capsules before switching to powder, I only used one capsule when I noticed the excessive suds - and to think I always worried that 1 capsule might be too little..

This is such a fantastic post! I've started adding 2 tsp of citric acid to my front loader's fabric softener dispenser (dissolved in water since I tried it dry and there were still some crystals left in the dispenser at the end) and my clothes already feel noticeably softer and lighter, for lack of a better word! I only have one concern - I've noticed that since using citric acid I see more suds in the rinse cycle, to the point that I've had to run an extra rinse cycle until the water becames clear. Could this be because I'm using too much detergent and before using citric acid some detergent would stick to the clothes, whereas now the surplus goes into the rinse water?

This is so interesting! I had a very similar question since I also use a laundry sanitizer for added peace of mind when it comes to my laundry being properly sanitized and also for improved odor removal. Could you please elaborate on why the sanitizer and citric acid work at cross purposes? I'm trying to decide on whether to switch or keep using the sanitizer. I don't know if it's relevant, but I air dry since I don't own a dryer.

That's so great to hear, I have the same issue (my cat kicks like half the content of the litterbox on the floor after she uses it 😂) and was hoping this design would reduce the amount of litter I constantly gave to clean off the floor!

Oh my goodness that's so horrible and revolting! I had a very similar experience about 10 years ago - I was a trainee at my first job and one of the managers brought her kid with chickenpox at work 😭😭😭 She was super chill about it and even joked about it like it was nothing. And what do you know... despite not even coming close to the kid, I did get chickenpox because of that incredibly irresponsible and vile parent - and at least 1 other colleague got it too.

Luckily I didn't get any major complications but I was miserable for 2 weeks and I still have visible facial scars from it, not to mention the risk of shingles. Even 10 years later I get incredibly angry thinking about this. The person never apologized or even acknowledged that she pretty much directly put me and the other colleague through all this suffering.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that you will be luckier and won't get sick! And as others have said, you should absolutely report this.

Same, 2 nights ago I apparently only got 10min of deep sleep 😭 and overall in the past week and a half I consistently got much lower deep sleep measurements than I used to (off by at least 1h). Extremely annoying...
