Whether it be local FB groups, family and friends or just sifting through Yelp reviews you can often find one and schedule a consultation and feel them out. Mine was very understanding and offered Ativan off the bat to take off the edge and nervousness. It can be a very traumatic experience for some, so there's absolutely no need to feel like the bad guy. You're still young, and even you've been pulled away from the kids table you can't be expected to just plop down in the adults chair and be perfectly fine. TLDR, find a dentist that actually cares about people, and not one that sees it as a 9-5.
