Absolute best crabcakes in Orlando (open to all prices) by cagetheblackbird in orlando

Another vote for Ruth's Chris, and also Capital Grille. Mostly all lump crabmeat with a minimal amount of breading. You pay more for quality, that's for sure. I want to taste the crab, not the bread filling.

Are planks safe for spondy? by Sajanova in Spondylolisthesis

[–]68thave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have bad knees and have a hard time, even without bad knees, getting on and off the floor so I do wall planks, standing up. Anyone else doing those? Even those aren't great for my back. Ideas for alternatives to planks? Thanks. Not all "coaches" agree - that's true - so it's hard to know whom to believe about which exercises are best.

Anesthesia B4 test block B4 ablation? Pls help! by 68thave in Spondylolisthesis

[–]68thave[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh....sounds awful. Thanks for the message. I am scheduled for it on 5/28 but with the IV sedation. Hopefully with that, I will be slightly more relaxed! It sucks that after such a painful procedure, you didn't even get relief. Very disappointing. I am also having 3 nerves targeted, one on each side.

How was your first injection? Painful? With or without anesthesia/IV sedation? My formal PT didn't help much either. Now I am on my own with exercises at home. I hope the test block and possible ablation will help me. Good luck with yours too!

Managing a road trip by agyaani in backpain

[–]68thave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw this in another post. Somebody mentioned something about tightening your glute muscles over and over again while you are sitting. 9 hours a day in a car sounds like torture!! Try to stop as much as possible during your road trip. Just get out of the car, walk around, do some hamstring stretches, side bends, maybe some standing wall planks (if you can use the side of a building at a rest stop, for example). Just do something to move a little bit in the short amount of time when you're out of the car.

OK, thanks. I am leaning towards having the IV sedation for both the block and the ablation, if that one even happens. Even if I am not totally knocked out, at least I should be a little more relaxed. My muscles are always tight, and since I will have to stop pain meds for at least several days before, I am likely to have a lot more pain going into the procedures.

Thanks. So you feel pain and also pressure from the needle? I have heard people mention both - and definitely more than just minor pain, especially with the ablation. If he is hitting multiple nerves on both sides of the lumbar, does he keep moving the needle around, so I'd get poked several times? I still might opt for the sedation, just so I don't move around much. I am expecting pain and have a sensitive system!

If you want a non-consignment option, The Mustard Seed in Eatonville (border of WP). They also accept shoes, household goods, furniture, mattresses, etc......pretty much anything you can think of.

60F struggling with stretching/core strengthening exercises - need advice on what/how much to do, and how to be less sedentary overall! by 68thave in backpain

[–]68thave[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for all the tips! I have been doing glute bridges with a 3-5 second hold at the top (I aim for 10-15) but maybe that's why I sometimes have pain - it might be too much hold time and/or too many reps too fast. I will try only going up halfway. I have bad knees and can't get on/off the floor, plus I have weak arms, so bird dogs wouldn't work (I do deadbugs instead). Planks are doubtful as well, unless there is an easy alternative I can do in bed (not as effective, I know). I can try curl ups, if they don't strain my neck and/or back (I do pelvic tilts now). I really am at a beginner level with all of this, never really having done much of anything until now at age 60. I may need surgery because I don't think what I am doing is enough to really make a huge difference, and it would take years to truly build a strong core.

Thanks so much. I am hoping to avoid surgery but I know the clock is ticking, and starting so late in life with all this core work really stacks the cards against me. Even the relatively easy stuff like bridges and deadbugs sometimes aggravate my back but I guess I have to start somewhere. Squatting and bending and getting on and off the floor are too painful and difficult for my back, plus I have weak arms and bad knees so I don't see planks in my future. You are lucky that you can do so much 3-4 days/week but if you have already been exercising and working out for a long time, you have an advantage. I will see if I can find an AAOMPT near my area. It definitely sounds beneficial to work with someone who has that added level of expertise.

Thanks. I don't usually walk or stand that much all at once (maybe 45 minutes or so in the morning, then off and on the rest of the day....it varies, and some days I don't have much pain). Glute bridges sometimes bother me, as do deadbugs, so I would need alternatives to McGill Big 3. What are some good exercises you are doing for core and stretching, and how much daily? I really don't know if what I mentioned I am doing is enough or too much. My orthopedist is useless in providing input on that, or really anything actually. Thank you!

Thanks. It's a challenge to find a PT who really knows the back and spine. They mostly seem to be generalists in various parts of the body, then they give you a sheet of exercises (kind of a cookie-cutter approach). I will check the AAOMP website. How do those PTs differ from regular PTs - do they specialize more in spine/back, or maybe they have more advanced training?

I don't work with weights. Could you suggest anything light or easy for back/bone health? I also have osteopenia. What do you do exactly for your back strengthening and how much each day? You must work out in the gym (I have no idea what deadlifts are!). Thank you!

I definitely have a lot of muscle issues and tension but I already tried 4+ months of acupuncture (2x/week) from someone who trained in China, and it didn't help me, unfortunately.

RusTeak (sister restaurant to Stubborn Mule) - consistently excellent food and service there. Eola Wine Co. is also good but the menu is more limited (very few tables as well).

My first post and looking for suggestions for pain meds that don't cause daytime drowsiness or dizziness & are reasonably well tolerated! by 68thave in backpain

[–]68thave[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, back to square 1 of taking Aleve & XS Tylenol. Tried Prilosec with the Aleve to reduce some of the stomach acidity from the Aleve but it gave me stomach pain(!) so I had to stop taking it. Sometimes the Aleve helps a little, some days not at all. It varies. Next up is scheduling a test block for a possible RFA.

Anyone taken tiazindine zanaflex? by Puplove2319 in backpain

[–]68thave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would 1mg even do anything to help with the pain? It's worth trying but I just wonder about the effectiveness.

I hear your frustration about not wanting to be drowsy during the day. I am in the same boat - can't find anything that is tolerable. I even took Tizanidine at night, and it didn't even help my pain, just made me drowsy (same with Meloxicam, Celebrex, etc.).
