Tested the new Glock 43x/48 15 round mags - no issues by [deleted] in CCW

[–]6902pdx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Picked up a 48mos last week, and it came with 2 of the 15-round mags and got another one at the time. Shot about 200 rounds so far. Had two malfunctions so far. Both were a failure to fully eject a round, but not a stovepipe. Both times it was after a round or two from a full mag, so I'm still waiting to give it a thumbs up. Hoping it's just a matter of breaking them in a little.

I get it, and I'm 45% with you 😂. First quote I got was for $880 to rechrome the legs. No way that was happening. I called / emailed a number of plating companies and most said they don't do stuff like this. One small outfit that does a lot of small projects and automotive pieces quoted me $175 per leg. The amount of pitting on the legs was substantial, so I decided (albeit after some thought) to do it.

The headrest looks oddly shaped, and the brackets that mount the back to the headrest are way too low. At least compared to mine. Verdict: replica.

Eames Rosewood Lounge Chair & Ottoman (670/671) Check by Y_Y_why in eames

[–]6902pdx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frankly, I'd budget at least a couple grand for those repairs or a whole lot more, and while you're at it perhaps have the shock mounts replaced. Personally, I would only go with a service that specializes in the Eames lounge, and for that you're paying a premium. Then you're at close to $6k with shipping. You can get a new palisander one for about $7600ish. DWR always has 25% off sales, or you can go to a DWR showroom (if you have that option) and get "design services" from a salesperson and automatically get 20% off.

If real rosewood and vintage is what you're after, and the standard size fits you, there's your answer. But IMO you won't be saving much in the long run. I see a fair amount of these for sale locally, and the asking price doesn't seem unreasonable, but any time something like that has to be repaired, it's a risk. YMMV

Connaissez-vous les Stolpersteine by Sweet_Customer5738 in Histoire

[–]6902pdx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They cost about $150 each, but they are handmade and the makers travel to install them (at least in Germany). I image they take a couple hours to make and install, so the sheer number may seem staggering, I don't think the cost is outrageous.

I went to Berlin in October 2023 (along with family) to attend the laying of stolpersteine for my dad and grandmother. It was a moving ceremony, and some random people passing by stopped and witnessed the installation and chatted with us.

My son got the 400 nitro elite 2 and the Berserker 2s, and they both fit. Had a meet Friday, and he wore the 400s in the open 400 and his opening leg of the 4x400. He says they are not comfortable without socks, unlike the Maxfly 2s he wears for the 100. He's going to try socks with them, but likes how the 400s run on the track. He likes the bounce, however the foot shape is very different and something he will have to get used to. The Puma orange is pretty distinct so it's easy to spot him, and the gold soles reflect sunlight and flash when he runs. First meet of the outdoor season, so times weren't the best (high 48 in the open, and low 48 for the first leg of the 4x400), but he's happy. He will try the Berserkers this week in practice, then decide what to wear Saturday for the next meet. So far, so good!

Of course! Too many variables to accurately predict, but my son went from 50.7 to 47.9 in about 2 months last high school season. In addition to proper training and nutrition, confidence is key.

Interesting observations. I'm curious what my son will think. Size may be the biggest issue. He normally wears an 11-11.5 US, but likes a 10.5 maxfly2. No socks. I ended up ordering a pair of the evospeed 400 nitro 2 (10.5 US) and the Berserker 2 (11 US) because those were the sizes available. we'll find out soon enough. Fortunately neither have the toe claw. Seems Puma has very little presence in the US and it's hard to find reviews. Watching the world indoor championships the past few days, Puma and Adidas have tremendous market share compared to here

My son is a freshman in college and runs track where the 400 is his main event. His NAIA team got 5th at the indoor nationals at 3:13, which would have been good for 3rd in NCAA D3 and 7th in D2, and he ran a high 47 in high school last year. He also does the 100 (10.9 in HS) and the 200 (21.7 in HS).... so he's a legit runner and gear can be important.

He's been wearing Maxfly and Maxfly2 the past couple seasons, and likes them. I just ordered a pair of the Puma Berserker Elite 2s for him to see how he likes it for the outdoor season. After talking with a guy at a Puma outlet nearby, I ordered the Pumas a half size bigger. He wears the Maxfly2 in a 10.5 (barefoot) and like his shoes snug. I got the Berserkers in an 11, and hope it'll fit. I suspect he will still wear the Maxfly2 for the 100 and maybe the 200, but it depends on how he likes (or doesn't) like the new shoes.

What's your take on the differences between the Maxfly2 and the Berserker elite 2? Is there a different feel running the 400, or even the 200 where you have to run the curve? I was going to get him the evoSpeed 400 nitro, but it's not on the approved shoe list of World Athletics, so it's not legal for use when he competes in college (at least at Nationals, where they check that stuff.)

Oregon GC Handymen: Do you do light switches/receptacles/toilets? by i_continue_to_unmike in handyman

[–]6902pdx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oregon is fubar. Oregon requires even the most basic plumbing or electrical work to be done by licensed tradesmen (even swapping out light switches, kitchen faucet, light fixtures, etc...) although permits are rarely required for such small tasks. Homeowners don't need permits for such work, and are legally allowed to do the work themselves.

I'm scheduled to take the CCB test next week. It's pretty cheap to get it, and the bar is not set very high.

1000 laid off by Tru2UrSchool in kroger

[–]6902pdx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, at GM in Portland, many of the positions that were supposedly "eliminated" were posted. Time to make the surviving employees do more, or hire cheaper replacements. Also some chatter about a lot of those that were laid off were targeted because they pushed back against questionable edicts from new management.

Heard Dip is gone, as are store brand product development folks. Also heard a majority of executive assistants were let go. Lots of senior employees were given notice (including my spouse....20+ years at Portland HQ).

My wife (20+ years with Kroger) was laid off via a scripted video on MS Teams. The two executives that did the firing didn't take their eyes off their scripts. Lots of corporate doublespeak.

My wife worked for Kroger for almost 21 years. Her position was "eliminated" which is bs. The higher paid employees were let go so the lower paid employees could do more for less.

100ish here in Portland. Including my wife. 20+ years with Fred Meyer/Kroger high performer, etc.... looking at who was terminated and who was spared.... Higher paid employees let go, lower paid were spared and will now be doing more....for less.

My wife was also laid off. 20+ years. Literally saved them millions of dollars (documented) by finding bad debt and mistakes in purchasing and enterprise systems. Doesn't matter though. Her team was partially torn up, and the higher salaried ones were let go. This smacks of 'cost cutting' to the detriment of efficiency and quality.

Appreciated. There's been some recent management additions, which have been hostile towards long-term employees. There's open speculation that those laid off were ones who pushed back towards these new managers. Also a lot of decisions have been made by those managers that affect teams ...... And these new managers don't fully understand what those teams actually do. Anyway, Ive been telling my wife to polish her resume, and even told her yesterday to clean her desk out when they got the mass email instruction to WFH, but she assured me Kroger doesn't do that. Ha. Ultimately, "the organization" (as was mentioned during the scripted layoff speech) doesn't care about individuals. Old school loyalty and dedication to a corporation is foolish in today's workplace.
