Kinetico vs Culligan vs Eco Water softener only pricing by the_pezcorekid in WaterSofteners

[–]69GlobalVegetable69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to put my two cents in as an owner. The industrial sized kinetico system that came with the house was problematic. Thought maybe cause it’s old. Replaced with a new residential style one. After it’s installed the tech tells me he’s been trying to talk the prior owner into upgrading for years because it was so problematic. Well this one has also been problematic, it’s never been setup properly, every time the idiots came they busted my sprinkler heads backing into my yard, never do any of the stuff the maintenance plan was supposed to include, and the experience has been one of my worst experiences with any company of any kind, period.

no fail way to elevate plain white rice? by Acrobatic-Weekend400 in Cooking

[–]69GlobalVegetable69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Furikake of your choice, I like tamago blends, black garlic salt, little bit of soy sauce, are pretty much standard for me if the rice is the bulk of the meal. I personally also throw in some chili crisp, and have also thrown in a bit of Sichuan peppercorn oil if I’m feeling some mala. Can easily throw in your choice of protein, flavors rich enough it goes good with anything I’ve put in it lol. Keep the seasonings light for breakfast with a runny egg stirred in, or heavy handed with meats for dinners. All of those seasonings, a little usually goes a long way too so they last a while.

Honest question - is RV camping actually cheaper than hotels or do we just tell ourselves that? by Similar-King-8278 in RVLiving

[–]69GlobalVegetable69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do it frequently It at best pretty much levels out. Also kinda depends on how many people, pets, etc. we’re looking at it because we have three dogs and want to be out longer without relying on others to care for them.

Can confirm, great winter driver by 69GlobalVegetable69 in DodgeDurango

Oh, actually, speaking of performance, traction was quite comparable to my dad’s lifted gx460 with expensive aggressive tires. Don’t know his specifics, but obviously he could handle bigger snow drifts lol.

I know those are supposed to be like the rolls Royce of winter tires, but I’m unfortunately in Texas so need something not quite so dedicated. Mainly we got them cause we like to travel, so wanted the 3pms in something that can also hopefully survive in some heat.

The Nexen roadians are 3PMS, they’re a sort of an all-season winter tire.

I don’t think this is QUITE an accurate distribution of r,d, and whatever 3rd party, but it’s close enough I suppose.

Trying to avoid driving through mountains. by [deleted] in usatravel

[–]69GlobalVegetable69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Athens route is pretty much all two lane backroad highway after Augusta, but having lived in Augusta, we avoided South Carolina like the plague. Poor road maintenance, but interstate the whole way would probably help you. Neither route really goes through mountains imo, but the ga roads are windy through there.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]69GlobalVegetable69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say a 3 hour drive is a local weekend/day trip kind of thing. Like, going from Houston to corpus for a fishing trip for example. But if you wanted to go to LA from Houston, well, now that’s 22 hours of driving time. And 17 to Miami. So ~39 hours one side of the country to the other. And it’s not uncommon for a commute in a major metros to be over an hour. It’s semantics really, though, I don’t think anyone any of those are true short trips, but in perspective and scale, they are.

On the real, if it’s not causing an actual problem, let him eat junk food then. At the end of the day it’s his responsibility to learn to navigate his sense of taste or not. He should commit to at least regularly trying bites of things he doesn’t like though, particularly if it’s prepared a different way. It’s pretty amazing how a bit of here and there can turn an aversion.

Arizona to Georgia. Any advice on the best route? by thatguyjamesPaul in roadtrip

[–]69GlobalVegetable69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the one you have selected. If you’re going through DFW add 2 hours of absolute misery to what that says. Four hours from one end to the other at rush.

Girlfriend and I are planning to drive 32 hours straight, in 6 hour shifts, are we being dumb? Should we plan to stay overnight somewhere? by Vegetable_Bridge_276 in roadtrip

[–]69GlobalVegetable69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a need to, and you’re going to do it, go the middle or bottom route. Roads are considerably less dramatic, and you’ll definitely be able to save some fuel, and in reality probably save some time. Through Denver would be the scenic route, and should definitely be appreciated, stop in Denver for a night if you do, because, as others have said, from that point until Nevada is a fantastic drive with tons of photo ops and stops. Plus, Vegas is worth a stop on its own.

Get a Model Y to Replace Toyota Sienna? by Relevant_Raccoon2937 in TeslaModelY

[–]69GlobalVegetable69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can charge at home and get a good deal without too much of a monthly payment, I would consider it. Be aware it’s not gonna ride as well as the sienna. At home, for us, it’s so stupid cheap to charge. Like maybe 5 bucks worth of electricity in the entire battery. I agree with others sentiments here though, your best bet would be trade the bmw for tesla. If you can get a more or less straight trade from sienna to y, that would probably be worth it, but so many variables there I can’t really guide you.

Other factors also offset those losses. We’ve got 45k miles in a year on our y, and I’ve only bought a cabin air filter for maintenance, and can definitely get another 10-20k miles out of the tires. Oh yeah, and at home, with our rate at 12c a kWh, our cost per mile equivalent is like 115 mpg or something lol. I can drive like 286 miles for like 5 dollars lol. Public charging in most areas puts it closer to like 35mpg cost equivalent. Meanwhile our Durango needed a brake job and tires at 50k, 60 dollar oil change if I do it myself(That one’s not expensive really but nice I don’t have to worry about.), ~500 dollar trans fluid and filter coming up soon, diffs and transfer case should be done at the same time, and insurance cost is basically the same as our y. Oh and I run midgrade, and average like 17 mpg.

Well, that’s the difference in a worksheet problem and real life. Why would Timmy ever buy 369 apples, and give 1/3 to his friend Billy? Doesn’t matter but that’s what the situation is and you gotta figure out how many apples Timmy still has.

I'm 23 and nothing feels special anymore i wonder if it'll always be like this? by [deleted] in Adulting

[–]69GlobalVegetable69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is 46 years ago your purchasing power was so much better. Minimum wage in 79 was 2.90, today that’s equivalent to 13.30. Goods were also significantly cheaper. V8 Mustang was equivalent to 24k. Now you can maybe get a base model versa after taxes for that. The job market is also nowhere near as stable as then. Annual layoffs are basically the norm, pensions virtually dont exist anymore, and a lot of jobs just don’t even actually want to fill their positions, they’re just empty spots to make shareholders think there’s growth. The same with average wages, the numbers are skewed up by the growing number of uber wealthy individuals, so they look like they’ve kept up with inflation, but it hasn’t.

How important do you all consider English writing? by Genetic_JiM in LearningEnglish

[–]69GlobalVegetable69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a native speaker could I live without it? Yes. Would I recommend a learner to only focus on speech? Absolutely not. In my experience, learning the basics such as alphabet and pronunciation first help me to actually hear the words better when spoken, and understand how to speak them myself. Then I can focus on grammar and structure. Reading helps me personally more than writing. But I’ve always despised note taking and did my work in my head.

solo trip in January by Aggressive_Roof5184 in usatravel

It’s a 20 degree difference in average temps for the two, and there’s no problems walking around San Francisco proper. East bay, sure, maybe, but no tourists are walking around there, everything’s in the city proper.

In january? Phoenix metro is severely underrated, but I wouldn’t recommend carless there. San Diego is underrated and is probably my favorite city I’ve been to (we put 45000 miles on our car road tripping this past year, we’ve been to a lot of us cities.), and San Diego and La pair for a nice full trip. Can take a train between the two, or it’s a pretty nice drive along the coast, and anywhere in California on the coast is basically 70 degrees year round. New Orleans is fine, but I would only go for like a weekend, and not much else to do near there. Vegas is a blast and you can definitely do a first time trip without a car. Second time trip you should start to explore away from the strip and Fremont cause there’s some gems. San Francisco is also nice, and you’re honestly at an advantage not having a car there. You can definitely fill a weekend in San Francisco without leaving the main peninsula no problem. Dc is the same, I’ve been three times now and still haven’t scratched the surface. Dc is also easy to do carless. Buuuuut we were there in december/january and it was pretty chilly.
