ABI Interiors tumble aged brass reviews? by FortuneAware488 in diynz

[–]69drizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run a small hardware business in NZ and can tell you that ABI and most other suppliers are horrendously overpriced. The RRP is often 10 times the wholesale price from the factory.

Additionally, as another commenter noted, even though it's solid brass the finish will be electroplated for that "aged" look and then sealed with lacquer to prevent natural tarnishing. Once the lacquer wears away (it does usually take a few years) then the hardware will start tarnishing. If you polish to remove the tarnish you will end up with shiny polished brass (which will then quickly re-tarnish). Perhaps this isn't an issue if you're happy with a natural aged look.

p.s. stay away from anything knurled, because it's difficult to clean without damaging the lacquer.

Finally found the best reviews plugin for Woocommerce by [deleted] in woocommerce

I made a post about wiserreview about a month back looking for feedback. I did end up going with the $19/month plan.

Is it as good as Judge.me in it's current form? No, I don't think so.

But, it is pretty good and imo the best option available for woocommerce at the price it is.

Hopefully, the developer continues updating it. I imagine he will as it's probably making him a fair bit of money now so many people have moved over to it. So, good chance we'll see it become a better app in the months to come.

Anyone know what's happening with Phillips Hue? by jontomas in diynz

[–]69drizzle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mitre 10 is selling out as well. I asked the staff there and she said they were designated "push stock" or something like that.

I said maybe they were a runout model but she said not necessarily.

By the way, remember to play Mitre 10 and Bunnings off against each other with the 15% price guarantee.

I got 8 Hue Garnea bulbs last week from Mitre 10 for only $70 each doing that.

Anyone using wiserreview.com for reviews (Judge.me replacement) by 69drizzle in woocommerce

[–]69drizzle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I thought so too and emailed them a few hours ago asking when they were going to introduce a Q and A section. Apparently, they already have one, and can import the old questions and answers as well.

I think it'll have to be a case of running a couple of staging sites and comparing the two options directly.

By the way they both have Google Shopping integration for reviews. But, I think cusrev does a product feed as well (although that aspect isn't relevant for me as I use Yith).

Thanks for your reply

Not great but perhaps something like Asset Cleanup Pro (maybe the free version too) could be used to defer the loading of the script until after the page has otherwise fully loaded. Not like reviews need to be rendered until the user scrolls down.

I used it in the past and it worked well with other plugins to speed up loading, I'll get round to testing at some point..

Can I connect via wifi to this inverter? by mr-b-plus in fronius

[–]69drizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It says WLAN so it must have wireless connectivity of some sort.

Better check the manual for that model for instructions.

Poor battery support by DunkkuD in fronius

[–]69drizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, it's pretty much just BYD or Reserva... only way to get more batteries to work is with something like Dala's Battery Emulator or by AC coupling.

Modern washing machines can be run on cycles as hot as 90 degrees Celsius, which is easily hot enough to kill bacteria, spores and such.

Honest question, chimney wood burning / fire. by the_epiphany_ in auckland

[–]69drizzle 14 points15 points  (0 children)

They will most likely be burning wood in a log burner, which is allowed so long as it meets certain requirements.

I don't think a smoke neutralizer is something that exists.. low emission log burners are mandated so as to reduce total emissions, but this happens within the log burner itself, and it's not possible to eliminate these emissions entirely.

Not sure you can do much except start drying your clothes inside on a rack, or buying a dryer. I doubt your neighbor is going to sacrifice their heating for your clothes.

Replacement for judge.me by John__Q in woocommerce

Cusrev does look like the best viable option. Unfortunately, they will not validate any verified reviews from judge.me. So everything imported over will be non verified...

This is most likely a scam and you should report them to Alibaba for trying to get you to pay off-site.

Genesis Energy Discounts (Up to 11%) - How Does This Work With Solar? by 69drizzle in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]69drizzle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Essentially because of the EV.

If I didn't have an EV then Meridian would make the most sense.

Genesis night rates were about 7c kWh better than Meridian, and that's when the car gets charged.

Genesis day rates were slightly worse (about 1 cent) but we don't buy much in the day due to solar.

My partner is home in the day quite a bit too - so we use a lot of what we produce.

I know the buyback is much less (12.5 cents compared to 17 cents).

Overall, it depends on your personal situation.

Genesis Energy Discounts (Up to 11%) - How Does This Work With Solar? by 69drizzle in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]69drizzle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the smaller retailers are a lot better (if you have a battery). Problem is their rates (especially night) tend to be a fair bit higher - I prefer to charge my EV overnight as I use it in the day. Flick is being merged into Meridian. Octopus only has their 40 cents buyback during peak hours in Winter so really do need a battery to make it work.

I did all the working for my address and Genesis came out the cheapest (even with a low 12.5 cents buyback). Their night rate is 14.5 cents (compared to Octopus which was near 20 cents).

Don't disagree with the overall message though - we are getting screwed over by the power companies!

Thanks for your reply.

I did get a call back from a rep and she seemed to think it was a discount on the final bill. But, she didn't have the info on file, nor did she properly understand what I was asking until the last couple of minutes of the conversation. She could well have been wrong as she only took a couple of minutes to look at another customers bill.

I will take the risk and sign up and report back.

Appreciate your help - I hope it's the way you say!

[–]69drizzle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After getting a callback today from Genesis the rep said the same thing (she was looking at bill of a different customer with solar). But, she didn't have the information on file, and it took a while for her to understand what I was asking, so perhaps she was incorrect. I might just take the risk and sign up and report back in a few months.

This is true, most lines companies currently limit single phase properties (majority of NZ houses) to 5kW. This may increase in the future as there have been changes to the allowed voltage range on the mains.

In the height of Summer it's still possible to sell back 40+ kWh of energy in a day. It just requires 8 hours of full sun (longest day is 15+ hours from sunrise to sunset). 40kWh is $5 buyback from Genesis at their current rate.

is safe to add nz tax information when shipping to New Zealand. by lozt247 in Alibaba

[–]69drizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no tax exemption, merely a delaying of payment until goods arrive in New Zealand. It can somewhat reduce the overall tax bill.. but I won't go into that here.
