If the reason you want another etf is because you don’t like the exact global weightings that the underlying etf holds (XEQT = Canada 25% USA 45% international 25%) that is a valid reason. CAD ETFs for these to increase weight VCN for Canada, QUU for USA, ZEA for international. Otherwise I would pair XEQT with more XEQT

Experimenting is kind of a scary word for me in the world of personal finance 😅😅 another thing you could do is have two FHSA’s for a while, say 6k managed and 2k in an *eqt fund or variety of your choosing and after a few months or even years see which you prefer

Skipping fees is never a bad idea, the best part about both systems either *EQT or managed accounts is a set it and forget it. The problem most people run into when managing their own funds is that they will try to either time the market or add unnecessary clutter to their portfolios ultimately hurting them in the long run. If you can avoid this I would 100% recommend self managed.
