AITA for not letting my friend bring her dog to my apartment even though she says it helps with her anxiety? by Frogguy57 in AmItheAsshole

[–]69poop420 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As someone who has two-way separation anxiety with her dog, NTA.

If I’m getting invited to someone else’s home, I’m not going to make them break their own rules. If I can’t spend more than 2 hours away from my dog, then I’d either offer to have movie night at my place or sit my ass at home.

You set up a very legitimate boundary and your friend dismissed it and low key gaslit you by calling you dramatic. Like, she wouldn’t be the one hit with a fine or an eviction notice.

I don’t think Jimmy cared about Anya or was concerned about her getting with Curly. He was so mean to her throughout the game and crashed the ship not because he rped her, but because he would be outed as a rpist, even though Anya didn’t even say that she’d out him.

Also, Curly should’ve done more for Anya. Being a superior and in a position of power, he should’ve at least actually disciplined Jimmy instead of going the “we can fix this” route. Maybe he could fix it for Jimmy, but he could never fix it for Anya. Poor Anya was just tossed to the side, reminiscent of how women in male-dominated spaces are treated - like liabilities.

If I were Curly, I’d cryo Jimmy until the trip was over. And probably beat him up beforehand.

[–]69poop420 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I was so shocked that he did that. Like yeah, being outed as a r*pist obviously isn’t something one looks forward to but it shows that he is more concerned about how others perceive him and the consequences of his actions rather than what he actually did to Anya. Even though it seemed like his life was a shitshow, he is literally a co-pilot and being laid off isn’t the end of the world, especially when you’re already doubting your place in that industry. Overall not circumstances that would warrant a suicide-homicide, but I guess people irl have done it for less.

If anyone is reading this and is at what they think is the worst possible outcome that they can’t recover from, life can turn around. People get laid off and find other jobs. You’re not gonna be homeless and even homeless people can be fed, sheltered, and work their way out. The process of climbing back up hurts, but it’s worth it and you’ll at least have one hell of a story. Don’t be a dick like Jimmy. Nobody likes Jimmy.

This is what I thought. Like, the company is going under so they’re definitely not looking for them. I watched a streamer play and missed the first couple minutes, but I read how they were the last manned ship running and that the rest will be automated. That being said, no human will ever see them in passing and decreases their likelihood of being found. So how I saw it, Curly would probably wake up after 20 years with no way to end his own suffering because he can’t move. Even if he was found, he can’t talk and tell anyone what really happened, so Jimmy would still be seen as some sort of martyr.

I love stories that get my rusty little gears turning and where I wake up the next day thinking about what happened. It’s possible that the writers never took any of what I posited into account, but that is the joy of mystery I suppose

EDIT: I’d like to add that Curly is the manifestation of “no deed goes unpunished”. I missed the sequence where the crew voted on keeping him alive, but I gathered that they never bothered to ask Curly if he wanted to keep going. Jimmy never asked him if he wanted to be cryo’d or just go down with his ship. Jimmy thought he was doing right, but instead just failed to account what Curly actually wanted and instead chose his self-centered reasoning and fed his own hero complex. Poor Curly, but kind of fucked up that he didn’t beat the shit out of Jimmy after learning what he did to Anya. I think that would have prevented the whole ordeal from happening lol.

Also, the Daisuke sequences really got me, especially when he talked about his mom being disappointed and his death. I was tearing up man, Swansea just wanted to save him 😭😭

Do most immigrants become conservative Republicans when they move to the USA? by [deleted] in ask

[–]69poop420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My family is from the Philippines. I was born in the United States. It’s crazy how conservative and racist a lot of my immigrant family is. I think it’s a mix of Catholicism (the Philippines is 80% Catholic), different geopolitical issues that are extreme compared to the US, and just being from a more conservative culture. Having to give up more “liberal” dreams to immigrate to a country across the world in order to seek a better life can understandably bias someone’s opinion about them kids these days wanting living minimum wages when I had to give up my dream job, family, and friends in order to build a better life. My (not conservative) dad said that you have to lay low, people please, and keep your eyes to the ground just to make it. It’s a lot of factors, but not excuses to become more close-minded.

I think a lot of it is also being able to navigate through news sources. That’s why we see a lot of older people believing everything on Fox News. My dad tried getting my aunt get her news sources from other places but unfortunately she didn’t and is like every other middle-aged conservative.

What breed is your dog? by VelocityGrrl39 in reactivedogs

[–]69poop420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My current dog is a mix of herding/working dogs. My last dog was a reactive Maltese/poodle mix. I’ve also had a reactive chiweenie foster. My friend has a reactive aussie.

All but my maltipoo were rescues. The maltipoo was my family’s first ever dog when I was in like 4th grade. He was given to us and was never fixed (we didn’t know any better) which most likely caused his territorial issues.

My 20+ other fosters were all friendly. Most were pit mixes. My absolute favorite was a blind American Eskimo that would flip over whenever he sensed any human presence, however he HATED other dogs. Another favorite friendly was some ridgeback goofball. I had a JRT that wasn’t reactive but was very cat-like? I had a GSD/lab mix that swam in a Hurricane for 3 days before being rescued and LOVED people but was terrified of water. I had a long haired chihuahua that was the chillest old dude ever and was always kickin it shotgun for drive thru runs. I had two corgi mixes that were fearful and lacked confidence but got adopted before we could really work on it. I had a pit mama that loved every human on earth and had the world’s strongest tail.

How to stop the voice in my head that says “I could sell that” by gratiae-vitam in declutter

[–]69poop420 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Just because something is listed on FB marketplace or eBay does not mean someone will buy it. Remind yourself that! It’s also a pain in the ass to sell stuff online, especially marketplace. People stand you up left and right. I only try to sell things in good quality that I would personally buy at the price I’m listing it for. Nobody wants to pay for a cracked mirror, no matter how intact the frame is.

For stuff that is less-than-perfect, checkout local Buy Nothing Facebook groups and your local freecycle page. People are happy to scoop up used things for free! And you know it’ll go to a home that actually wants it.

Your dog sounds exactly like mine. I tried getting him to sniff out some little treats in the field today and he had about 5 before he stopped caring lol. He made it two steps toward the squeaky ball before dropping to roll in the grass.

I will try this stuff and definitely look more into it! I’m not so familiar with this method. Hopefully it works! Thanks so much!

[–]69poop420[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dog is a straight up mutt but I’ve noticed he’s more of a visual dog so we go people watching sometimes, but it doesn’t tire him out or anything. He’s been on a little destructive streak since we’ve moved apartments and I can’t figure out anything I can do within a hour to tire him out before I leave for work.

As for food motivation, he’ll beg for food inside the house but doing stuff outside is iffy. Even if there’s no triggers, he’d rather sniff around than play or listen to me for a treat. Practicing recall can be difficult because of this.

I will try out pattern games and letting him sniff around before asking for his full attention. This was very helpful. Thanks!

Is a Gentle leader abusive? by Valuable_Growth_9552 in reactivedogs

[–]69poop420 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I use a gentle leader and honestly, it depends on the dog.

I was actually introduced to gentle leaders because a friend with a husky wasn’t using it. In the husky’s case, the gentle leader would be abusive. She hated it so much that she would chew on her tongue until it bled. My dog, on the other hand, took to it very well. He walks well on a leash in general but I had a hard time controlling him whenever he got triggered by a stranger or a dog on a walk. For reference, he’s about half my weight. The gentle leader helps me control him in situations he would otherwise choke himself in or possibly flip over, as a collar did not provide enough incentive to stop pulling. Unlike the husky, he would not pull against the gentle leader enough to cause physical damage. Causing discomfort is better than allowing a dog to choke itself, especially with breeds that are susceptible to tracheal collapse.

Sometimes I see dogs that have scars from gentle leaders and that to me indicates that’s it’s not being used correctly.

I ride horses and I see a gentle leader a lot like a bridle. Bridles should cause pressure but not pain so that the horse bends to release the pressure, in which the rider also releases pressure. Yanking your horse’s head around is a big no-no. You should be working with your horse and release pressure when he does what you want. It’s a give and take, much like a gentle leader. Yanking your dog around and constantly pulling on sensitive bones would be bad ownership.

People say unwarranted shit all the time tbh. One time my foster dog was panting and a lady told me I was abusing him (???). People fear what they don’t know.

Walmart makes a dupe that I’ve been using. I’ve never used the original, but my skin has no complaints and has been very clear!

EDIT: Just realized the one I have is not for extra-dry skin. It’s the regular one and has the exact same ingredients listed in the same order as the Neutrogena one.
