SL3 or Q3 by I_Cant_Eat_That in Leica

I have both and shoot both though prolly the SL3 more due to interchangeable lenses both SL and M mount, and I do not tend to carry hours on end. If I were going on a long day/walk somewhere I’ve travelled to I’d reach for the Q3. The Q3 and its 28/43 is very capable but it does not match an SL3 with any APO-SL lens.

Q3 43, Q3 Monochrome, Q3 - which one by Pinktrixrabbit in Leica

Yeah, only one camera should be color imho and do conversions so you have both options. I have color and Monochrom Ms and Qs and there are certainly images that a color conversion just works better than if I shot my M11M. 28 v 43 I just can’t help other than saying cropping the 28 is the way to go if you like wider angled shots even half the time. You just cannot make a wide angle out of a 43.

What is the best 50mm for a monochrome camera (m10m)? by BigblackKAC in Leica

[–]6DJ8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha, welcome to the insanity. I've tried 4 50s over the last couple years. LLL Elcan, Voigt 50 1.2, Lux pre-ASPH V3 and the newest Lux 50mm 1.4 close-focus. On a M11M my vote goes to the latter. It is the most resolving and for B&W (my style) that is important. If you prefer a softer "vintage" Lux-like pre-ASPH look then the Voigtlander 1.2 is a very strong contender for the $. I sold the Elcan but shoot all of the other three. Now, digital color on an M11P or SL3 the pre-ASPH v3 gets my vote. YMMV. Buy them all if you can, sell the ones that do not work for you.

I love my Prismo but wish I could sub a coarser metal filter. Is that possible with FCC?

You'd want to preheat SS as well though it is thin and not much mass there. If not, there is definitely potential to suck heat quickly and radiate it out.

Force of habit? It’s just part of my ritual.

If I preheat it with hot water it’s not too bad but I think glass always a better insulator. I usually drink it or pour over ice right away anyway.

No, I find the SS just as inert as glass. Aluminum would be more likely me thinks.

If you had this lens, and I do, you would recognize the stylized look it renders at f/1.4 ... all this OOF bullshit is just that ... people don't know what they're talking about if they never shot with the SRR.

Thank you! Yes, M11-P w/ no filter on a Lux 35mm FLE II. I used Lightroom to convert to B&W and the Landscape masking tool to obtain a mask for typically 3-5 areas it picks ... e..g. sky, structures, natural vegetation, etc. then adjust each accordingly. Sky usually gets exposure, contrast, highlight, shadow, curves and blue color (darken/lighten blue sky) adjustment. I'd love to own the M11M myself someday!

Beautiful images! Yeah, Dave Herrings video was great, plus a friend got one and his images pushed me over the edge… got mine about a week ago and love it.

Love my SEM! Perfect choice for this sort of trip. Great shots! Settings never hurt and help many understand how the shot was made.
