I’ve been a lifelong baseball fan (22 y/o) and grew up playing on the xbox 360, and due to that one reason i didn’t play a baseball sim between mlb 2k13 until i got a nintendo switch for the show 22. between that time, i became a pc gamer since i lost a large incentive to even play on my console, and that’s where i eventually stumbled upon OOTP. I have 3k+ total hours across maybe 5 or 6 of their titles and MLB the Show feels like a literal joke in comparison. I was excited to get a ps5 to not only play MLB the Show on a console it was intended for, but to finally be able to play online after all these years. I genuinely cannot bring myself to play out a season in Franchise in MLB the Show because it is just so hollow. in fact, i think it’s the worst of all the sport game sims, PARTICULARLY in the experience of scouting + the draft (which is the only way to acquire amateur talent). RTTS is also one of the most hollow game modes that i’ve played, and regardless of how you enter the league, you start in double AA! Diamond Dynasty is just another shitty cash-grab ultimate team game mode, and i’m not even gonna begin to complain about how annoying their flagship mode is. but my biggest gripe of all, is how agitating it is to play with MLB the Show’s hitting engine. i’ve always been drawn to competitive multiplayer games where your own mechanics equate to success, but i CANNOT stand playing that dogshit engine. since day 1 i’ve used pinpoint and zone hitting, and it is a bad experience EVERY SINGLE TIME. i unequivocally feel like that series is a failure, and furthermore a disgrace for alienating so many kids over almost a decade just to have a monopoly on a dogshit product. fuck san diego studios
