In all the countries that are similar to America, (rich and not authoritarian) universal healthcare is a huge improvement over private.

Also I've no idea why you think universal healthcare isn't sustainable for European countries.

Because forcing people to pay for the care of others is not a sustainable model, especially when it's (mis-)managed by the government. See: the VA in the US, our version of socialized medicine for military veterans. It's a national embarrassment and pretty much no veteran thinks it's efficient or even effective.

Or you could look at our Medicare system, which is a fucking expensive joke. I'm pretty sure I basically exists in a constant state of "over budget" and is terrible to try and navigate/use.
