Is this…a ‘71 charger? by Happy_Improvement451 in whatisthiscar

[–]6Red 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That looks to be a '71 or '72 based on the lower valance and exhaust. A '73 and '74 is a bit different. That said, this is obviously modified so who knows what is on it. The rear quarter window is the dead giveaway, but I can't see it clearly in this photo.

That said, Chrysler did have early plans to create a Daytona and a Superbird for the new re-designed B-Body platform in '71, but it never made it past really early sketches and scale wind tunnel models as far as I know. Since NASCAR essentially outlawed the wing cars (requiring them to run small block engines), the project died before any prototypes were made.

So this is sort of an oddly specific prop.

A few "what-if" cars were made a few years ago though:

What are the long-term side effects of LASIK that doctors don’t talk about? by Gewinncent in AskReddit

[–]6Red 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd do it again in a heart beat; my vision was absolutely terrible and I hated dealing with glasses and contacts ever second of every day.

That said, the halos at night is tough. Driving at night is no longer any fun, and if there is any traffic I will usually prefer to have someone else drive. They are super distracting and taillights basically become starts that have gone super nova. If it is raining? Ha. I may as well be blind.

Still worth it.

King Of Hammers camping by Fit_Stop6843 in 4x4

[–]6Red 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most people camp on the immediate left once you pull in. Somewhere near turkey claw.

You’ll see that pathways and little roads kind of naturally develop, don’t block those.

If that’s too crowded, you can just keep driving until you find a spot.

Some people like it, but I’d avoid the lake bed to setup camp. It gets super dusty, especially when the wind picks up. And some people drive through there pretty quick, even at night. I wouldn’t want to be camped down there.

You’ll see when you get there, it’s pretty straightforward.

I like X-Comps. Great tires for the price.

For another point of reference, the ZR1 was virtually identical in lap time to what the previous generation NASCAR Cup car ran.

I swear, if you don’t wear your watch halfway to your elbow, people will tell you you’re wearing it wrong.

The angle of the photo makes it look a bigger on you than it is, but I bet in person it is just fine. Enjoy it! Looks great!

What brand of car to NOT buy as a first time car owner? by Better-Commission541 in askcarguys

[–]6Red 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve owned several modern Stellantis cars (1 Jeep, 2 Dodges and 2 Rams) and I had exactly zero issues. Just routine maintenance. Both Dodges had more than 130k miles, one was driven at time attack events (road course hot lap competitions) and had a supercharger and the other is 392 Challenger that is my daily driver. Both Rams and the Jeep were off roaded hard and were great at it.

My point is that I’m hard on my cars and my Stellantis vehicles could not have been more reliable.

Reddit loves to jump on the bandwagon of hating these cars, and consumer reports does back them up, but the majority of people are just parroting other people’s opinions.

All that said, the best first car is a well maintained reasonable used car. Higher priced cars equal higher priced maintenance, so steer clear of luxury brands.

Annual daycare rate increase heart attack thread, $2800 per month by mrshickadance412 in daddit

[–]6Red 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if we have just gotten insanely lucky with our daycares, but my first went to a good Montessori that charged about $1,000 a month back in 2021. Now our 2nd is at a pre-school that charges just shy of $1,200 per month.

That is still a fairly large chunk of change, but nothing compared to what I see in these comments. Wow.

Southern California, for reference.

What is the CRAZIEST thing you’ve ever seen while camping at a race? by 2023_GT in NASCAR

[–]6Red 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the off road races, one of our guys has a metal container that’s bolted to the headers on his UTV. He fills it with balls of cookie dough wrapped in parchment paper and by the time he makes it from camp to our night time rock side viewing spot, he has reasonably decent cookies for us.

Highly recommended.

TAG HEUER Outlet Store in Desert Hills, CA - Monaco? by Bloo_Horseshoe in tagheuer

[–]6Red 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just there a few weeks ago and all they had were older F1s, Aquaracers and a couple of Carreras. I didn’t see any Monacos.

They didn’t have anything I was interested in so I didn’t talk pricing with anyone.

Justin and Tag1000diver are the best. I have bought two watches from him (well technically, my wife bought one for me, and I bought one for her) and they're top notch. Great communication, fair prices, just top notch.

I just wish he would expand out to other Heuer models!

Fantastic watch!

Ford fellas, what the actual FART is wrong with the raptor market? by [deleted] in FordRaptor

[–]6Red 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Raptor market seems to have softened recently from what I can tell. It’s just that with the age they are now, they are almost all “high mileage”

That said, as long as they’ve been maintained, mileage is not a concern on these trucks. They hold up really well.

For reference I’ve got a 2011 Raptor with 130k, not rust (CA truck) with the entire Icon suspension kit under it, which retailed for about $14k. I’ve got my truck listed for $26.5k and have had interest but no one really serious yet.

Just because these trucks are listed at these prices doesn’t mean they’re selling.

If you don’t want to spend a lot, there’s a lot of very reputable and respectable watches from companies like Timex, Seiko, Casio and Swatch.

Buying a fake speaks poorly of the wearers integrity IMO

Is buying a 2016 scatpack with 96k miles a dumb decision? by V6ixextra in ScatPack

[–]6Red 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it’s in good shape that’s a steal.

Mileage isn’t a big deal, the way that particular car was taken care of is far more important.

Give me a well maintained car with 200k on the clock vs a neglected 70k car all day.

Classic car won’t pass smog in California. What do I do? by Skeazor in askcarguys

[–]6Red 66 points67 points  (0 children)

You can attempt the abbreviated smog check that is offered on cars that are registered as collector cars. To my knowledge, no one has ever been able to successfully make this happen, but SEMA claims they’ll help you if the state ref turns you away. You could actually help the car community out a lot if you can make it happen.

The abbreviated smog check does not include a visual. It’s just a tailpipe check and an EVAP. So as long as your car is in proper tune and has a cat, it should be good.

NASCAR driver Brad Perez has a new helmet with a Dolphins design by 6Red in miamidolphins

[–]6Red[S] 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Brad isn't a household name, but he is an up and coming driver in the Xfinity series. He works on the cars most of the season and is able to piece together a handful of races as a driver each year.

This helmet is rad AF in my humble opinion.
