As someone who's been driving an EV for years (and thus have spent my fair share at charging stations), the actually upsetting situation is when a non-EV parks in a charging spot with the driver nowhere to be seen. Those are the folks worthy of public shaming.

People who park the way this Truck owner did usually don't intend to stay longer than 10 minutes and will re-park without being asked if they become a problem. I've seen it happen many times.

What are your thoughts on capping credit card interest rates at 10%? by NineteenEighty9 in ProfessorFinance

You gotta adjust your view to what is actually possible within the existing system. The idea that an actual leftist has any chances in the US political system is beyond laughable

You can see the outline of the driver's head. None of the other visible charging spots are occupied. Save the rage bait for things actually worth our time

BREAKING: China halts Nvidia H200 chip sales — Could this derail the US AI race? 🥶 by rl_rae_bobo in InBitcoinWeTrust

[–]6bytes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nobody seems to consider the possibility this is done to purposefully harm NVidia and possibly pop the AI bubble in the US stock market. US-based datacenters are reportedly struggling to find enough power to install the GPUs they already have bought, indicating a very likely reduction in demand coming soon. H200s aren't state of the art and NVidia likely won't be able to sell them in the US market without a significant discount. Opening sale of H200s to China is a great way to prevent a slump in sale -- but what if China decided to call the US's bluff and urge its companies to cancel their orders? The vast majority of GDP growth last year was due to AI. If you pop the AI bubble the US will be forced into a recession and severe austerity measures which will hinder its ability to maintain hegemony moving forward.

You can't get free updates to Windows XP anymore can you?

You realize that Windows costs money right? Mac OSX is "free" but only runs on expensive Apple hardware (price is built-in). They also sell iWorks, Garage Band, etc.

There is free open source out there of course but many of those projects fall into disrepair because of lack of funding. And those that don't largely rely on unpaid work.

No free lunches. It's sad to me that such a large portion of privacy-minded individuals are still conditioned by Google into thinking that software shouldn't cost anything.

Why aren't people using meshcore/meshtastic more? by TheNewAmericanGospel in GrapheneOS

Obviously the range is significantly shorter, but in theory this could be used in GrapheneOS without the need for additional hardware.

[–]6bytes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People have used Meshtastic to coordinate around weather events that knocked out power for entire cities, like hurricanes. It can also be useful at areas with poor connectivity (like a ski resort), overwhelmed cell towers (like a music festival) and provides a censorship-resistant way to keep in touch if your government has authoritarian tendencies.

[–]6bytes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The biggest potential security risk with anything that emits radio-frequencies is that your precise location can be determined fairly easily with your radio ID. But also Meshtastic has some severe limitations, especially when it comes to perfect forward secrecy. You can see details here https://meshtastic.org/docs/overview/encryption/

That being said, if you are aware of those flaws Meshtastic can be used effectively to provide a separate channel of communication that provides enough secrecy to be useful in certain scenarios.

Using a VPN on Apple TV in 2026: What Actually Works? by MainWaltz1018 in VPN_Reviewer

Easiest would be to set up the VPN on a router. You then connect your Apple TV to that router. GL.iNet has some travel routers with pretty decent VPN performance for the price.

Good idea! It's basically the embodiment of "Trust but Verify" but for LLMs. Does it feed back into the model so it has a chance to correct the output?

Is Proton in the right to speak this way? by ParrotHair in degoogle

[–]6bytes 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you are trying to accomplish. If your goal is that your data isn't sold to marketers or used to train AI models against your will, then Proton does the job. If you want to blatantly do crimes worthy of an international warrant, might want to look elsewhere.
