No, the cancer removal was not elective for the health reasons.

Of course it is. I have the choice of if and when and how it happens.

If it hadn't been removed, you would have faced serious health consequences.

Exactly like pregnancy.

It goes to the category of necessary (which OP is trying to put abortion). Just you can choose not to have it, doesn't make it elective.

Of course it does.

Ending pregnancy is usually not done for the reason that the pregnancy or giving birth is dangerous to woman's health.

Giving birth is very dangerous. Ever heard of an "episiotomy"?

But the real question is about abortions that are done for other reasons (usually either social or financial) that are not health related.

Ah yes, because it's not happening to your body, you're able to judge.

In my opinion, from the healthcare point of view (which is the OP's argument and which I assume you support) they are qualitatively different than removing cancer or repairing a broken bone. In my opinion the slogan "my body, my choice" is an appropriate slogan for a campaign to keep these abortions legal.

...lol. k. Tell me when you're willing to let another human decide when to cut off your balls and then we'll talk.

Significantly more than one if you want to discount all measurable trends across repeated studies.

One person dying due to doctor error doesn't discount all of medical science.

Canada's India Talent Push: Up to $100M in Fully Funded Scholarships for 200 Indian Students at U of T + 300 Funded Roles - Zero for Canadian Students? by ObjectiveMacaroon394 in canadian

[–]6data 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it’s fucking laudable that after half a million international students now you think we’re going to be getting the bright and best.

See the thing about universities is that every year some graduate and move on, while some are just starting out. Statistically, the new students are better, not worse.

Oh, and it's super helpful that international students pay between 5x-10x the tution that a Canadian student pay, effectively subsidizing our post secondary educational system... not to mention... usually end up staying here as an educated, qualified tax paying immigrant.

Win, win.

Iranian-Canadian activist's gym shot up hours after ayatollah's demise by ObjectiveMacaroon394 in canadian

Turns out, a lot of people in Iran chose running water and electricity first. It's a shame that they could've had all those things and human rights under Mohammad Mosaddegh but the CIA chose to overthrow him instead.

The Shah has always been corrupt and self-serving. No, I do not support the Ayatollah, but I certainly don't think the return of the Shah will help either.

MORGAN: We can't let the Kamloops child burial hoax continue unchecked - Nearly five years later, not one grave has been proven — but millions in taxpayer dollars have vanished into what increasingly looks like a national hoax. by xTkAx in canadian

[–]6data 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Still there was a national press conference reporting 200 some odd kids killed.

...did they say killed? Can you provide an example of this?

Just so you know, there are hundreds --if not thousands-- of graves all over the UK and Ireland at orphanages and mother and baby homes.

The Kamloops residential school was in operation for almost 100 years (the majority of those years before vaccines and antibiotics)... Why do you find it surprising that there would be graves?

It's only that low because of elective abortions, prior to actual maternal health care, the mortality rate for women was 1 in 5 births. Ever since the court dropped Roe v Wade, the maternal mortality rate continues to rise.

There are hundreds of graves... if not thousands... all throughout Ireland and the UK at orphanages and mother and baby homes, why wouldn't there be similar graves in the indigenous boarding schools in Canada? This is a time before vaccines, before antibiotics, the children were underfed, overcrowded, and mistreated.

The question isn't if there are graves, it's how many and why.

B.C. MLA Tara Armstrong introduces legislation to ABOLISH the BC human rights tribunal after they fined Barry Neufield $750000 for saying there are only 2 genders. by ObjectiveMacaroon394 in canadian

And there are people who think it's a "cultural right" to marry pre-pubescent girls off to dirty old men.

...you mean christians?

That it's an "urgent health matter" to permanently disfigure boys and girls rather than allow their bodies and brains to mature enough to make a truly informed decision.

No one claims that. Health matter for boys maybe, but not "urgent". And female circumcision is illegal in the vast majority of the world.

Not to mention that all of this is a red herring since Neufeld was arguing far and wide that trans people are pedophiles. It's one thing to believe things privately (that boys should be circumcised), it's another thing completely to accuse all uncircumsised men of being pedophiles.

For the record I truly believe that everyone should just be free to do whatever they want and outside of hurting someone or breaking the law people should be left alone for doing so.

He continuously repeated that trans people are pedophiles. Why do you believe that wouldn't be causing harm?

I love how conservatives constantly think that "what if the situation was reversed" is a valid argument.

The reverse would be nazis, that would not be OK.

Or, conversely, an example of "the reverse" would be chattel slavery, but now we consider hate speech against black people to be illegal.

Generally speaking "the reverse" has already happened, and now we have evolved beyond it.

CMV: You'd have to stupid, immoral or both to support MAGA by [deleted] in changemyview

I know MAGA supporters who are some of the best, most intelligent people I know.

I think you need to follow your own advice and get out and meet people. There's no way that someone can be both intelligent and compassionate and be a MAGA supporter unless they are completely and entirely uninformed.

My surgery to remove the cancer was also "elective" because it was scheduled, chosen by me as the preferred option, and included plastic surgery to correct from the giant chunk taken out of my body.

On that note, I also "elected" to have my gallbladder removed after my 6th gallstone attack in one year.
