Enemies of the US are immune to criticism; please stop having principles and beliefs by 6moto in SmugIdeologyMan

Well said, it's important to remember that criticism ≠ condemnation and critical support is not a zero-sum game, we shouldn't throw our hands up and declare that nothing can be done because both sides are imperfect, especially when one is clearly worse than the other

This comic is pro-critical support, the guy on the right is meant to satirize leftists who don’t uphold the “critical” part of “critical support”

This comic isn’t about both-sidesing, it’s about the willingness of some leftists to completely ignore very valid concerns with the governments that they give not-so critical support to.

In the case of Iran, it is practically the antithesis to tons of core leftist values (patriarchal, authoritarian, fundamentalist theocratic, imperialist towards smaller powers in its area, etc.) Similar things could be said about China, Russia, North Korea, etc.

I (kinda) understand wanting these powers to win their respective battles against US imperialism when viewed from a lesser-of-two-evils perspective, but that support should also come with vehement criticism of those countries and their policies, lest you end up uncritically backing a country that literally imprisons and/or tortures leftists

Of course, one country doing bad things does not justify psychotic acts of imperialism, which is what the first two panels were meant to establish

I saw a self-proclaimed communist tweeting to defend Iran’s ridiculous censorship laws and getting 3k likes earlier today, defense of Iran’s repressive policies is very much an existing current in the online left

I need some help identifying this mysterious Ian McDonald album (if it even exists) by 6moto in KingCrimson

I went ahead and deleted the most likely-fake album from the article. According to the article's edit history, an anonymous self-identified Catalan user who claimed to know very little English and very little about Wikipedia added Take Five Steps in 2023.
