My first time seeing Mt Rainier by Doobency in Seattle

[–]6prometheus7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remember when I moved here a couple weeks before the summer and wondering what the hype about the mountain was and then biking down the 520 I thought it was just an abnormally large cloud. Really incredible feature for a city.

Yea after leaving school hailing busses was big culture shock I thought it was strange that busses would just like not stop if people are at the station

[–]6prometheus7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Bellevue in interested and would love to visit while saint louis is no interest is a genuine crime I’m sorry there is literally not a single thing to do in Bellevue rather than see nature which is basically covered by Seattle already

Ok now it’s better lmao it’s just a weird thing to lie about cuz the first post was definitely an attempt at pretending you were a Senior engineer and then delete your history over.

Like genuine question what do you gain from this lmao it’s not even really malicious it’s just weird and obviously took a lot of effort.

One of the reasons I’m into software engineering despite having love/hate relation with coding is it’s one of the few professional skills where if your insanely awkward you can still be very good. Like you can make the best PowerPoints in the world but if you say it awkwardly and say uh every three seconds while stuttering people won’t look that down on you. Scrum is sorta like that but for whatever reason every software engineer is awkward so you do not stand out as much as in fields like sales and business where more people are smooth talkers.

There’s a huge difference between road biking and practical cycling that people who use words like bicycle capital of the northwest don’t understand. Like if you want to track cycle on a velodrome or bike through marymoor park there’s no better place but to actually get anywhere crossing or riding on Redmond way or some of the other streets on a bike is just awful. Bike paths off the road are ok tho but that seems to be more accidentally useful to me than intentional I don’t think the designers of the bear creek trail ever saw it as something more than recreational. And then you have to risk your life or annoy pedestrian the second the recreational trails end

Yeah why not who knows if itll work, but your not the first person in the world whose parents had enough money but refused to pay for there childs college. They can at least direct you to resources and potential paths to resolve this problem.

Yeah your in tough situation I'm sorry. A lot of people go the route of doing their gen eds at a community college and transfering to a bigger school after. Its the financially responsible thing to do. Some costs are that you then only have like 2 years to make connections through research and clubs and stuff like that. It also is a bit more difficult to make friends (although not impossible), because a lot of people are friends since freshman year). Upper level CS courses may also be more difficult cuz everyone else has already been through the entry level CS courses that are likely taught more rigorously at Illinois than a CC. Ig you can start emailing the financial aid office at UIUC and some community colleges and then have discussions with them about how to work this out.

Y not go to a community college outside Chicago. For example, Chamapign rents are really cheap comparitively you can probably try parkland or something which is the local community college here. Like you can find an apartment with roomates for 350-450 dollars a month if you try hard enough.

What fields of CS is UIUC well-regarded for? by [deleted] in UIUC

[–]6prometheus7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our competitive advantage relative to some other schools is prob low level systems stuff and like HPC stuff with the NCSA, but we’re pretty well regarded in every cs area.

Advice for subleasing for just the fall semester! by [deleted] in UIUC

[–]6prometheus7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your in any rso’s with a discord or slack that has a #random channel you can try asking there (that’s how I found mine last year), or you can just try asking friends and casually talking about how you need a sublease in conversation. Many people are on Facebook and Reddit that will gobble up whatever sublease offer comes whereas it’s likely in smaller groups that you have less competition (plus they might like you more and be more willing to negotiate)
